This thread has had 70 hits, but only 9 answers so far, a 13% response rate.  I just know we can do better.

Well, we have n=100, and it's a dead tie... Funny.

With the only difference being, we have two worthy candidates for this poll.  : )  [DUCK]

The vote has moved in favour of several offerings. I love my collection and make a point of using different cans on each listen. Only having one headphone, you may as well get speakers and be stuck with the compromise.

Not really. Headphones can still be used in small rooms or rooms with poor acoustics, can be used at odd hours when speakers might bother others, and even the least portable headphone is much more portable than speakers for people who need to move frequently. I don't think I'd actually have an opportunity to use speakers if I owned them. At least, not without pissing off other people in the building.

I understand your point Spelaeus, but I was meaning from the view that speaker based hifis only have one (maybe two if you add in a sub or surround sound which you can switch on and off and adjust) sound.

A quasi-desperate appeal for poll stragglers.  Eight more days until the poll closes.

I like having several different headphones, and as such have HD 580s, HD 600s and K701s. The problem I'm having is where to go from here?

There are certain situations where the Senns far better suit the music, and vice versa the K701s, so I alternate (although tend to lean toward my 580s as an inoffensive middle ground).

I think i might need to add some Audio Technicas and decent Grados to my collection one day.

The problem I'm having is that I don't seem to fit into the vote! I have several 'high(er) end' cans, not what I'd regard as mid-fi. Maybe I need a poll as to which category I best fit into. :D

I think I'm a mid-fier, unwilling to spend what it would cost to try out an HD800 or a T1, but spending too much time here in these forums has tempted me to acquire different equipment in the sub $500 region.

Currently voting for multiple headphone options since that's where I'm at, but if I ever get to try one of the flagships and somehow fall in love with it for the music I listen to, then I could always sell off everything and use it toward purchasing one.
