hey i want a external DAC to hook up my audioengine a5's to my imac. would this DAC do the trick? any suggestions i dont want to spend over $100.

Should the the trick. It works well with my PC. I dont know of anything else under a 100 bucks.

I have a PA2v2 and a DAC, and I don't detect much of a difference. Would this be better?
