do some1 have experience with these headphones headsets

which one are better only for gaming not for music

AD700s by far. Tried the steelseries and didn't come close (very uncomfy for my head too). the AD700s does not have a mic, but a decent boom-mic will do (search headfi for this "boom mic AD700", enough info)

They are miles apart. The AD700s are way better in all aspects.

Another vote for the AD700's - they're incredible cans for gaming due to the ultra wide soundstage and spot on positioning.

Almost everyone I know who are hardcore gamers prefer steelseries over AD700. In fact I have never seen any players use technica during counterstrike matches. Why is AD700 so well regarded in this forum yet almost nonexistent in gaming community?

post #6 of 13

First in my game community ath-ad700 are very popular.

Then ad700 is headphones while the siberia are headsets (with mic). Well there is also a lot of publicity around steelseries while no publicity for audio technicas for gaming.

@TobaccoRoad

Because Steelseries focuses on gaming and barely any gamers (percentage of people who play games) actually know about audio. Steelseries, Razer, Everglide, Roccat whatever. They are all gaming brands and sponsor events which gets them known. Don't beleive I have seen one event sponsored by Audiotechnica, oh, if any Audiotechnica people are reading I'd be happy to help you with that here in Australia

Anyway, that's why gamers use Steelseries and the like. It is marketed at gamers and is for gamers and so gamers think "Oh they must know what they are doing and be better at it." And indeed sometimes they are.......... occasionally. Steelseries more recent models of headphones aren't to shabby.

Personally I will always use a headset for gaming because it works better at noisy LANs, this is where the Audiotechnica's lose out.

People don't like hassles. Having to buy an extra mic, doing research into other companies is all to much work for your average gamer. Steelseries is there, has everything they want and need (Or so the gamer beleives), so lets all go with Steelseries!

@Yellowade

If you decide to go with Steelseries Siberia v2 > 5Hv2. Owned both and the Siberias are better, no question, I use them currently for CS1.6 LANs etc. Haven't owned the AD700's but will be trying a pair out very soon and have told many people to buy them over the Steelseries products. So I will do the same for you.

audiophiles dont like gaming brands and gamers dont understand audio

i wanted opinion from some1 who tried both  siberia v2 /  5hv2   and ad700 and can give me opinion not influenced by liking or disliking some brand  or by huge gaming marketing

i dont care about mic

clipon can do the work for me

so if some1 tried em both pls share ur opinion

ty for all replies sofar

Well what hardcore gamers is that? Back when I played the only ones insisting on using the SteelSeries headset were directly sponsored by them. There is zero brand loyalty among the best gamers they use whatever they have to in order to get the good sponsorships and or win.

And audiophile gamers do exist...

The only thing that makes the SteelSeries remotely worth the asking price is their frequency response which is tilted in a way that some CS noises more easily detectable, this can also just be done via a smart EQ for games.

I tried both, easily AD700s. A friend of mine has the steelseries and tried my AD700s, he was amazed how much better it sounded. He mentioned the soundstage especially.

im sorry but what sondstage is lol

so the profit for game is bigger .....hearing footsteps more far and more loudly ect.?

post #12 of 13

Soundstage is basically how far away can you hear footsteps and other sound cues.

The AD700 is definitely better then the V2 but for LANs you need noise canceling which the AD700 does not provide but the V2 does.

If you want to LAN get the V2.

If you don't want to LAN get the AD700.

You could probably shove poop through the grill of the AD700 and it'll sound better than both of those. I currently own the Icemats. Great headset though for all around usage. But you're on a headphone forum for crying out loud :)
