Just went on a post-birthday spending spree of sorts. Bought the following Hybrid SACDs:

Mahler 1 (Haitink, CSO): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001R77GG6/ref=oss_product

Mahler 2 (Haitink, CSO): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QEXC4E/ref=oss_product

Mahler 8 (Tilson-Thomas, SFS): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HGCWCE/ref=oss_product

Bruckner 7 (Haitink, CSO): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VPNK5Q/ref=oss_product

Bartok Concerto for Orchestra (Eschenbach, Philly): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BLI36G/ref=oss_product

Berlioz Symphony Fantastique (Jarvi, Cinci): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005NSXH/ref=oss_product

Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition (Jarvi, CInci): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DDBCXM/ref=oss_product

Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis / Coplan (Atlanta): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006A9GN6/ref=oss_product

Plus, I decided to go ahead and finally get a CD I've been waiting on for a while...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004ZD69/ref=oss_product

So, what are your thoughts? I know I'm a bit of a CSO fanboy...

Sounds like you're off to a good start! I'm a huge fan of the SACD format and own a few hundred discs. If you want some good deals, check out the Berkshire Record Outlet. Lots of great deals on classical and a few jazz discs.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tips. I own Mahler 6 (Haitink, CSO) and Mahler 7 (Abbado, CSO) on standard CD, but I had to spelunk to find the best SACD recordings I could find.

My advice - get the Mercury Living Presence and RCA Living Stereo SACD's while you still can. I know some are already OOP and many are going to be OOP soon. Get them while you can.

I would prefer a good performance over a good recording. [Although Haitink is great...]

Man the Mercury Living Presence Firebird Suite is $100 on Amazon...

I may have the get the RCA recordings of Scheherazade, Rhapsody in Blue, Pines of Rome, and New World. Sad that Pictures and Symphonie Fantastique are both available on the RCA Living Stereo recordings. I didn't know they were regarded that highly... :(
