I was wondering if I pair my W5000 with WA2 or maybe WA6SE comparing to HA5000 what will I gain and loss in sound signature.

Thank you for your answer,
Charlotte

No one ever heard WA2 or WA6SE with W5000 ?

Ive heard it with Grado SR80, RS1, GS1000, Senn HD650, AKG 701, and it sounded great on all of them.

I never heard the 5000, so i cant comment.

WA2 is OTL while the WA6 is transformer coupled -- this means that the WA6 should do better with low impedence headphones like the W5000 than the WA2. I would not consider the WA2 with the W5000s.

Wa2 is such that it will work with any phones.  It sounded great with Grados, and i heard the version before the power increase and after.

This is what Jack told me via Email.

Hello Charlotte,

The WA2 drives very well with many low impedance headphones, especially when the 7236 tubes are used. Tube life has no relation to what headphones to use.

The WA2 sounds smoother, warmer, and silkier compared to the WA6SE. The 6SE is neutral, fast speed, and great attack.

Thank you,
Jack

But then again , does anyone have ever tried W5000 with both WA2 and HA5000 ?

If WA2 can give the sound like HA5000 but pull mids back a little , that would be great

Not sure about WA2 but using my WA6 with W5000 soften the mids a bit (not in a way that is pull back, still forward mids).  If you really love the W5000, there is not much out there is better than HA5000, including beta22.  The synergy between HA5000 and W5000 is like make for each other and it is make for each other, plus HA5000 is a great all around amp.
