How to make ipod touch LOD?

Thread Starter

Hi,

I have an old ipod usb and a 1/8 jack that I want to modify and combine it together to make a LOD for my 3rd gen ipod touch. I've heard that I need to put in some resistor in order for it to work.. Can anyone confirm if this is true? If yes, can anyone specify what type of resistor I need to use? Thanks in advance.

Check out the wiki:

The resistor is needed to prevent airplane mode comming on in an IPhone or a message about unapproved accessories I belive - in your case you may not need it - but I am not sure - never tried it with an ITouch.

To put the resistor in in your situation will be hard - you have to crack it open.  In you case just cut off the USB part - figure out what wire goes to what pin by testing continuity with your multimetre, solder it up and yer done.

Please - add to the wiki article if you find anything unclear, or come across new info.
