Here's the situation: I got some Shure SE420 headphones. I was displeased with them, thinking about returning them, because of their anemic bass. Then I thought "Well let's try the PPA." Yep, that straightened them right up. They sound fantastic hooked to it. However, my PPA has two problems:
1) It is high gain (10). Because of this (I presume) is hisses when the headphones are plugged in. It isn't much, but any audible hiss is enough to make me mad.
2) It is not TSA friendly. These phones are for travel, of course. Well my PPA is just a plastic box with an open top with wires running around in it. Somehow, I think the TSA would flip their lid if I tried to bring that through.
So what I'd like to do is have the gain lowered, probably to 1 as efficient as these things are (I'd have to buy new opamps but that's fine) and have it packed in to a nice case. However I'm not all that competent when it comes to this stuff. Building it was fine, with help, but said help is gone now and desoldering components is a whole different issue from soldering them. I'd need someone to remove the gain resistors and replace them with new ones, and then put it in a case.
Anyone around here that might be interested in doing such a thing?
