I need a good amp for Grado headphones <$200

Hello everyone:

I own a pair of Grado SR80i and although they sound good directly plugged to my iPod, I've read they can sound even better when amped. I'm also planning to upgrade up the Grado line, so I was wondering: which amp would be recommended for Grado headphones? I'm looking for an amp that I can use with my SR80i, but also with future purchases (like the SR225i).

For the uber-cheap, the PA2V2 was a great match and at $65 shipped very hard to beat. And Gary's service (and lifetime warranty) are pretty hard to beat.

Try the mini3 (either from a DIYer or an established one like Rockhopper Audio), it's a great value for an amp which has more than enough power that sounded great with lots of Grados i've tried with them - SR80, SR325is, MS1i, RS1. I was lucky enough to get mine for just $60 ish from a local DIYer.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just did a small research on this amp and I've read really good reviews. Since I'm not good with DIY stuff, where can I buy one and for how much?

You could get one on ebay from Solder_Monkey with premium components for around $120 new. Or you can also search for MisterX and ask him to if he could make you one for probably around the same price. I got mine from Solder_Monkey and the sound quality is really fantastic with my SR325i, go with the mini3 and I guarantee you will love its sound.

For the price of the Mini3, you can also squeeze in a good interconnect with your budget.

I think he offers the charger as well as extra, you can ask him about it. Otherwise any 15v 0.5a that uses the same barrel plug will do.
