Velleman 15 LED VU Meter

I am looking at the circuit for the 15 LED VU Meter - Can anyone advise if links JD1 & 2 should be present when links JB1,2,3 and 4 are removed?

Im not sure but I guess its to select whether you want all the leds to be lighting up as in a bar or just a single one for each level.. thats what I understand from the info on diagram

edit: just checked the lm3916 datasheet and its indeed a mode selection

Hi

Yes it states on page 8 to tie pin 9 "bar/dot mode" to VCC for bar mode and leave open for dot mode. The thing is looking at pages 9 and 10 of the datasheet pin 9 is connected for dot mode also! according to figures 1 and 2. (Link JD1 and 2 on the attached diagram)

by data sheet you mean the assembly instructions?

I think the best way to find it is to try in different ways..

Hi

The 3916 datasheet. Nothing is mentioned about the jumpers looking at the PDF on the velleman website.

If you go to here http://www.velleman.eu/distributor/support/downloads/?code=K4306&type=8 and look at the english parts list nothing is mentioned but if you look at the none english assembley instructions it mentions (page 4) JD1 and 2 for DOT and JB1,2,3 and 4 for BAR....

I think logically b's are bar jumpers or d's are dot and you shouldnt connect both types at once..

Clever man you win a cookie lol

Makes sense to me - that also seems to tie up with the foreign instructions.

Actually was gonna build the circuit on my own PCB as part of an IPOD dock (thats the next bit to ask questions on).

Been wanting to actually use Ki-Cad open source PCB program for a while now.

Only use the ipod in my car and never own or buy amps with silly lights on so no idea why i am making it lol - dont think it will go with my millett max headphone amp either!

P.S Got to justify my new bench power supply, Oscilloscope and signal generator to the wife! As she says "yes your not working at present so you got the time but not the money"....
