I buy stuff based on whether it has a special kind of attractive quality about it and usually the top model. If it goes together nicely as a package I buy it. Ipods have been my worst buying decision, but I guess they're bad because they're too mainstream... average people buy them.

I went through the same dilemma and bought the Sony, great decision, the sound is awesome.  Napster supports the lossless music files for the Sony.
