Hi

I have a question, I have SRH440 (they are awesome) im using them with uDAC and my macbook pro...

But i have also iphone and ipod nano 4G,  and i think, it could be very usefull if i would have some portable amp...

Im thinking bout E1, is it a good choice? (or anything else that is portable and suitable for I stuff)

Thanks a lot

Any help?

A mini3 will give them a nice lift in terms of adding warmth and slam to their "cold" sig. I have not tried them with the E1 though.

That is because it is a DIY portable amp. www.amb.org will give you all the information you need on them. If you do not have the ability to DIY it also lists a couple of professional builders which you can get to build it for you. It would cost around $125 give or take a bit if you get it built.

I was lucky enough to have mini3 built by a local DIYer for about $60ish two years ago. I think you can go for the brand name builders like Rockhopper Audio, the case looks very nice.

I use the Practical devices Xm4 with the Srh-440... just like said above for the mini box...the xm4 adds very nice warmth and bass slam to them. It has a nice bass boost button that adds a good extra kick when needed.  Love the combination. Xm4 is very reasonable amp price wise imo. Not the worlds prettiest amp..but the black looks kinda sexy. Also the xm5 if you want to use with PC as well as portable. Good luck.

I like RSA equipment.  Maybe check out their Shadow.  All of their equipment looks very impressive.  I recently emailed them with a few questions on their Predator and Ray emailed me back himself.  I like that a lot about a small company in this day and age.

Rsa amps are top notch..no doubt..but they are also about 3 times the cost of the before mentioned amps. Tough for a first amp purchase I think if you have limited resources.. I personally have had the Hornet..predator and P-51.. so I have a bit of experience with RSA.. I don't use my portable equipment enough to warrant such a cost/difference in performance I guess. If I had unlimited funds then I would go with RSA... simple as that.

Hi Defunctio, have you decided an amp for your Shure srh440? I am in the same page as yours, thinking of PA2V2, Nuforce Icon mobile and Mini3. Little confused to decide on them since I have experienced none of them.  Any thoughts?

if ur looking at cheap amps... for under 70 euros... the only thing left is fiio i think.... LOL

personally, i would save up the extra money cause trust me, you will end up upgrading and fo for either a ibasso, mini, predator, p-51 mustang...

ohh did i mention... " you got to pay to play"

and the law of diminishing returns do apply here

Have a look at this amp from fellow Head-fi type DIY-er and all-round great bloke Fred_fred2004:

I've bought two of these and I love them. Cheap to buy, lasts forever on a charge (no battery costs), brilliantly clear sound, tight bass and yes, I did briefly use them with Shure SRH440s. Fabulous. The maker is very easy to deal with and ships worldwide. Do yourself a favor and drop him a line. No, I'm not affiliated with him in any way other than as a stalwart supporter of a great deal on great gear.

I can't believe that someone suggested a FiiO.....
