If I have an LOD attached to my Ipod should I be able to adjust the volume through my ipod?

I have a fiio LOD and I can adjust the volume on my rockboxed ipod video.. does it mean my fiio is not really an lod?

yes, the whole point of a lod is to disable volume control on the ipod and just adjust the volume on the amp only so you don't double amp the sound.

i guess my fiio LOD is defective..  is the dock connection on the ipod able to transmit amped signal at all?

I made a weird discovery, I tried my Fiio LOD with my Iphone and it disabled the volume control, so I switched my ipod video to ipod os and same thing the volume was disabled, but when I am on rockbox, I can control the volume from the rockboxed ipod.

I think that is related to rockbox itself. Isn't there a setting for LODs on rockbox?

I cant say how the lod work on the rockbox because I haven't tried it myself.

The newer versions of rockbox have the ability to control the volume through the LOD. Technically it was always possible with the "precut" feature but the standard volume control can lower it now too.

Is there anyway to disable the volume the control on the newer rockbox verison?

Not that I know of. I just put the volume at maximum. Same result.

In principle, the LOD should be a fixed line level output signal that represents the best-possible audio output quality available from the device in terms of frequency response, noise level, THD, etc. This high quality signal can then be well used by a good quality amp to produce the final sound sent to the headphones.

It doesn't really make much sense to make the LOD signal adjustable - even with everything else held the same, at the very least you would lose SNR with a lowered volume setting.

From what I have read from the rockbox forums is the lineout level should be around -57 and anything above that you are just are just over boosting the sound. Plus, I mainly use my headphones with a amp and prefer only to have a set volume on my source and control it on the amp.

I agress but with the most recent build the have main the lineout signal is adjustable because of complaints from ppl because of low gain signal while watching videos.
