Turntable help needed - Kenwood KD600

I picked up a Kenwood KD600 turntable off craigslist this morning. It is in excellent shape (even the dustcover looks mint)  I get sound out of both channels and the speed is good but the tonearm wobbles quite a bit from side to side (almost a 1/2 inch) so I'm wondering how hard it would be to replace the tonearm on this table. I don't want to spend a fortune but I got it cheap enough to throw some money into it. I know the arm can be replaced but does anyone know how all the wiring and everything is connected? i'm also unsure if I need to make a base plate or if they directly bolt in...In other words I have no idea where to start or what I'm doing. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

First of all, great snag on the KD600. Your best bet might be to get a login and start here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library/kenwood/kd-600.shtml.  Check out their forums also.

You may have to get a new mounting board for it though (or have some one make one).  Can you identify the tonearm?

First, have you downloaded the manual yet?

I think you can find it here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library/kenwood/kd-600.shtml

According to what I found, it looks like there are separate armboards available, including one with a SME mount. I don't know if those are generally available, but it'd be worth looking. SME makes a terrific arm.

Anyhow, why don't you download the manual which should have instructions for removing the arm. Take the arm off and then post some pics. I'll bet someone here will be able to spot why the arm is loose and propose a fix. It could be as simple as tightening a nut where the arm meets the plate.

If that's all it needs, you should get it up and running with the arm it came with. You can always monkey with it later, but get it spinning and learn how to set up a turntable first.

Thanks! I think it's factory but I'm actually not sure,  here's a couple of pics if that would help.

Thanks for the links everyone!! I'll download the manual and see if I can get it taken off tomorrow and post some pics. I'm actually afraid to use the table as is since the arm tilts so bad the stylus is actually slanted to where it is almost sideways I have a couple of test records I don't mind getting torn up but I'm afraid to play any of my other viynl on it...I've owned around 10 turntables and I have never seen one do this it's weird but like was said it could just be a loose bolt or something. Thanks again for the help!

Try posting those pics on the VinylEngine forum, someone might be able to ID it for you.. Since the KD600 came without an arm, it may be decent and just needs some adjustment.

Thanks I have not posted any pics there yet but one guy said there was a bearing adjusment that can make it wobble like that so I'm going to take it apart and see what I can find out. Thanks
