How To Fix 3.5mm Plug on Quad Cable + Canare F12 is different?

I'm doing my first DIY project - recabling my D1001 and I've done everything except fix the Canare F12 plug.

I have two issues:

1. I have 4 coloured wires and + copper sleeving - which go where (polarity list below)?

2. Canare F12 seems different to other plugs I've seen and plugs in guides - Is mine right?

My camera is poor, sorry. I can't do much better than this and closeups are impossible.

Basically on the inside, the there isn't a pole on the left and right, just left (at the bottom in the photo) and there is a smaller pole in the centre - the right hand side bare (closest side in photo).

Here's the polarity list that I followed from the original thread::

_________________________________

Red = Right Positive (+)
Black = Right Negative (-)
Blue = Left Positive (+)
Clear = Left Negative (-)\

So...

Tip = Left Positive
Ring = Right Positive
Sleeve = Left & Right Negative

Therefore, the wires were soldered thus:

Tip = Blue wire
Ring = Red wire
Sleeve = Black & Clear wires, plus Copper Shield

The copper shield gets soldered to the plug sleeve, along with the black and clear wires, but the other end of the copper shield is left unattached. That way, the shield acts as a drain for any RF noise that might be picked up.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Unless you're using the cable as an IC, connecting the shielding to the ground isn't necessary. I'd just the Clear and Blue wires for ground, and Red for the right channel, while Black is left. That way you don't have to find a grounding point for the shielding. The tip is always the left channel and the clamp is always ground.

Yeah it certainly does look like your F-12 is missing some contacts.  Where did you get it from?

You're wrong, it's not.

Yes, your F12 is correct, Canare makes them like this, and so do alot of other manufacturers. There is ALWAYS a tip and a sleeve, then a larger sleeve with a clamp for the ground.

All sorted, more or less.

Thank you to all.
