Actually... I don't know Marco Sfogli.  Guthrie Govan's record is amazing (he only has the one I know about, and then I know he's on "The Alchemists" compilation), and Shawn.... well, I think Shawn had the most preternaturally gifted hands I've heard on an electric guitar. Certainly for pick playing.  I really only like a handful of the official recordings, those with Hellborg, and think a lot of the material is weak. But when it's good, it's great.  And that last tune on the last Smilefest concert he did with Hellborg and Britt.... that version of "Aga of the Ladies", is one of the most astonishing things I've ever heard.

Guthrie rules! and Andy Wood, and Tom Quayle, and Rick Graham, and the rest of the Suhr artists as well

A huge Marco Sfogli fan here.  Waiting for the upcoming work on the new James LaBrie album and his next solo album.

What else has Marco Sfogli done? Obviously I need to check this guy out. Actually, the question is more what do you most recommend for me, as someone unfamiliar with him, to explore?

I know on earlier LaBrie records is one of my favorite all-time rock guitarists, Mike Keneally.  That guy is one of the most amazing human beings on the planet.  I don't much care for LaBrie's work itself, however.

Check out his solo album There's Hope.  Some great tracks there, especially Andromeda.

Thanks, marvelusjd -- most appreciated. Given your answer, it might seem obvious, but it isn't.  Like, if anyone asked about Shawn, I wouldn't point toward "Powers of Ten", y'know? And I could repeat that sort of example for a bunch of folks. I have a new guitar player to check out!
