I have an Ultimate Ears replacement cable for their custom molded pieces but I want to use it for my super.fi 5 pro's. It appears that the pins are slightly longer, and just a tad thicker. Should filing do the trick? I'm not sure that I have thin enough metal file to get between the two pins but I can go buy one. I've never done this and want to make sure I do it right so just looking for tips from someone who has done this before. I hope this isn't redundant, I have searched around a bit and found some discussion on getting these to work on super.fi's but they've either mentioned filing in passing, without much detail, or that they will fit but they are just tighter and will need some force. I've already done damage to one pair of my super.fi's forcing them in, so that's not an acceptable solution. Just looking for a little more detail and information about filing these. Thanks!

I doubt it, people have been using Westone cables for ages, on which the pins are also slightly bigger than the stock UE cables with no harm. It'll stretch out the socket to the point that you can't use the original cable anymore without it falling out, but it works. If you still want to reduce the diameter, get some fine sandpaper (600 grit should do) and lightly sand the pins.
Thanks, I'll give the sandpaper a shot. If so many use these custom cables successfully without modification, I wonder what went wrong in my case? If you have a chance, check out the thread I linked to above. Something got disconnected or damaged when I tried to install them the first time. Fortunately UE sent me a replacement. They didn't ask for the damaged ones back so I'd like to try and fix them if possible. If it were a damaged driver that's one thing, but I'd hate to toss them if they just need resoldering.
