Not impressed with Sansa Fuze SQ - Page 3

It worked, installed smoothly. Only downside is it does a restore to factory settings (with new OS) and all your music is wiped out. Not a problem since I have it all stored in iTunes as playlists, and 8GB doesn't take long to replace. But if iOS4 sounds that good, a 64GB Touch may be in my future. Or I will wait for the next gen Touch, usually out in September.

I'm selling my X-1061 for $300USD, but the price is negotiable. I'm going to use the funds for my wife and I - it's our iPhone 4 fund.

As for the iOS 4 SQ vs the Sony X-1061,.....I just like the overall package of the touch since the update, and the sound isn't a boomie and adjustable on the touch, but I actually like what I hear now.

I'm happy enough w/my 64gb touch to sell my X-1061,......that should say a lot when it comes to me.

As for the Fuze & clip+, those are great budget players - and RB improves on them, but if the OS ain't stock it isn't for me. The SQ and EQ really bump w/RB - but the UI is "meh" IMO, YMMV.

Agree on the overall Touch package with update. One reason I bought it was to have a wifi player that worked (the X never got there for me).

I wouldn't own a Fuze or Clip (of course they are the two cheapest models) if I didn't like them at all. And RB is nice on the 1GB clip, basically a shuffle player for working out. But also agree, the fact you have to import an OS is a pain, and I don't care much for the RB interface either.

I bought a Sansa Fuze V2 a while back so see what the hype was about. I converted ALAC in itunes to 320 MP3 to test it. I found it has a rather hot treble, virtually to the point of distortion. It as if the default flat output is equalised already. It hurt my ears especially with ESW9s.

There's a lot of talk about that, on both the fuze and the clips. Essentially, it *is* EQd already. A lot of people seem to have trouble with the concept, but "Flat" doesn't really mean true flat when it comes to the fuze/clip, it means a custom Sansa EQ that they made and just synced to a flat looking display. Replace the word "flat" in your mind with "sansa" or something else and maybe it will be clearer.

If you want to hear it actually closer to true flat, raise or lower one of sliders and it will defeat the "sansa" setting. In your case, since you heard more treble, lower the treble slider by one, and you will probably notice a big difference.

I got a Sansa Fuze and I must agree about the user interface. It sucks plain and simple. I am pleased with the sound quality, but that might be because I haven't heard anything better. I have owned a lot of cheap mp3 players in the past, so the Fuze was quite the upgrade for me.

I bought my first mp3 player in 2000. Costing something equal to 300-350 US dollars with 64 MB ram. Ram was expensive then. At least I was able to fit an album on it.

Dude, we proved you wrong in this thread (including actual measurements):  http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/486771/clip-s-normal-eq-is-not-flat

Yet you continue to spew this misinformation.

What misinformation? I just said the baseline EQ was not true flat, which accords with what he claims the measurements supposedly show. Although it's still not definitive, because he conveniently left out the measurements for +4. ;-)

But it's very telling at least that (according to him) "Normal" has pretty much exactly the same volume as +4, only +4 has some peaks and valleys like +6. So if "Normal" is as the same volume as +4, it's obviously not truly flat, but therefore is  boosted very much past 0.

Now that we are at it, Please suggest the cheapest player (fuze/ipod/cowons) that will utilize my headphones to their full potential.

I will use RE2+E5 with 320kbps songs. Nothing more nothing less.

Also i prefer only audio. Other features like Video/UI does not matter to me.

The EQ on simply turns the volume down in order to avoid distortion. Check the frequency response charts if you have a doubt. The Clip measures exactly the same as the s:flo2 on my computer (without load at least).
