The attack and speed is better, they have become faster, snares just hit like a whiplash, the sound is clearer and more airy, the bass is faster, everything is more controlled. Definitely an upgrade. It could also just be that I have missed them the two weeks they have been away for the cable change - so do not put too much into my initial impressions. If I knew they would be that much better I would not have hesitated so long to have the new cable mounted.

Looks good. Surprised you went for silver since I find the T5ps a little too peaky for me; so much so that I'm considering to sell them. My ears feel fatigued after an hour. I have no such problems with my DT1350.

Would a copper cable mod solve this treble happy issue for me? Would it be worth the investment or should I just buy something else to replace the T5p?

I'm glad you have a positive experience. I've got a 2m Toxic Silver Poison sitting idle, I had intended it to go on the T5p. I don't know how to get it onto the T5p in Australia. I've also got about 3 years warrenty left.

Thanks.

Thanks. I few years ago I did the same with a HD650. I found a silver cable and I just like what good silver cables do to headphones. I think for people who think the T5p are too thin and lacks bass this is not the way to go for them.

I just prefer bright sounding headphones. Actually for a long time I debated with myself if the T5p were to dark for me. That was after having the T70 for some time :-)

I am guessing that a new cable will not make the change you want and that you simply just prefer a more laid back signature? I see in your signature that you once had Grado SR-325. I loved the SR-325 for their edgy, slam and punch. Have you heard the Sennheiser HD650, they could be closer to what you want?

Re-cabling is not so easily reversible, so think what you're gonna do if you don't like the outcome...

A better approach IMO would be do dampen the sound reflections from the inside of the cups with some sound absorbing material. I have done that and couldn't be happier with the outcome. And the best thing is that it is totally reversible if you don't like the results. Look for instructions earlier in this thread.

Yes, I do remember you mentioning that you prefer bright headphones a while back. Those T70 are known to be one of the brightest headphones around.

I only sold the Grado due to comfort/fit issues. I liked the sound very much, I guess I would like the HD650 but need closed back. I may get some Ultrasones or Shures. Thanks.

Now this is very interesting. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

Just a minor update on my perpetually faulty T5P.

Beyerdynamic switched the cable for the third time, this time with the new model cable which is, according to the repair center here in South Korea: "Much stronger!"

I'm happy.  I really do love my T5P, but the cable had been the bane of my existence ever since I bought it.  Here's hoping this updated version lasts more than a month. :-)

Wow, sharp-looking cans there, man!! I've always liked the look of silver, and it works with the T5p's aesthetic, so kudos. Also, I looked through some of the other photos in that thread-- and whoever is wearing the Amon Amarth shirt gets a horns-up salute from me ;).

AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!! I feel like these are MY headphones at this point... I saw that there'd been 26 replies to this thread since last I'd looked, and my first thought was "Aha! Gelocks must've gotten those crazy woodied T5ps back!!" Imagine the depths of my despair and dismay to realize they haven't even been started yet... Sending positive vibes for strength through this most trying of times, gelocks...

;)

Congrats on your 1,000th post! :p

Hopefully he wont make me wait too long and still does an outstanding job. Right now, I'm not impressed but hopefully the end result will...
