beyerdynamic T5p: Photos and first impressions. - Page 78

I have bought a T5P from a head-fi member who bought used from Zombie-X. Have also bought an Edition 8 and am sending both headphones to Double Helix cables. Will have Audeze detachable cable jacks installed into the T5P and have triple threat adaptor installed into the Edition 8 that accepts Audeze cables. Am having Peter make his Macromolecule Elite 8-wire with the all pure silver peptide Litz version headphone cable that can plug into either headphone and if buy an Audeze headphone later will obviously plug into it also. Am hoping the T5P and Edition 8 will sound incredible with this cable hooked up to a Chord Hugo I have preordered.

T5p sounds bright, perhaps silver might not be a good idea unless that is the kind of sound you like.

I love rock concert type sound which some may consider very bright. With the adapters I am having installed into both headphones can easily later have Peter build me either an Macromolecule Elite 8-wire hybrid cable or an all copper OCC headphone cable. I think is really cool to have a headphone cable that can plug into either headphone and any future Audeze headphones I may purchase.

I sent Peter at Double Helix Cables a message about silver possibly being too bright and wanted to share his response.

Hi Peter, I replied in the T5P thread at head-fi about the work will have you do on my headphones and one member said are you sure you want all silver because is a bright headphone. That got me thinking that since you are installing adapters to both headphones would it be worthwhile to have you also build me an additional headphone cable that is all copper with Audeze connectors such as your Macromolecule Multi-Wire 8 wire OCC Copper headphone cable with Kumihimo 8-wire braid?

"Most people that think silver is bright are either listening to bad silver or can't objectively evaluate a cable, they think that without copper or gold in it, it's automatically harsh. My OCC silver is never harsh. You can certainly try an OCC copper cable, as per the email I'd wait for Peptide v2 in March."

I finally got around to sending off an email to have my T5p modded to mini-XLR (Audeze-style), so I'd be interested to hear how it works out for you, WK!! Definitely keep us posted!!

And what of you madmen (*cough GELOCKS cough*) that were talking about having the T5p cups replaced with wood? You've GOTTA share some pics and impressions on that, man-- I'm pretty sure that international law frowns upon torture, and I'm not sure you could define keeping that kind of info from us in any other way :P.

What type of wood you go for and what sort of sonic influence you think they may have?

I was going to ask you about this a couple of days ago...but then I remembered that it was going to take 1 or 2 months to finish the job.  I think you sent them out less than a month ago...

Yeah, I don't even remember when it was... mid-January maybe? So yeah, maybe in March/April I'll receive them. I went with Curly Birdseye cups.

Recently on the colorfly C4 thread,a member had started a great synergy between this player and the T5p's....does anyone else have this experience or of another player?

I really enjoyed mine with the tour X5 I had a few weeks ago! It gave the T5p's a tinge of warmth which was welcomed by my ears! ;-) Very good resolution, doesn't take anything away from the headphone. I also enjoy my AK100 MK2 with the Beyer's but the X5 drove them with more authority. (in comparison overall, the MK2s sounded kind of soft...)

very interesting...this is why personal perspectives are so important....on paper the AK100 mk2 would seem the more hi end product...but synergy is so important...and therefore head fi member feedback.

Hey All, I'm interested in having my T5ps modded so the cables can be replaced (and interchangable with my Audeze) similar to WizardKnight.  I spoke to the folks at Double Helix and they can do the mod, but it voids the warranty. Does anyone know if any authorized retailers can do a mod like this that doesn't void the warranty? Thanks!

I can't imagine that Beyerdynamic will honor your warranty after such a change to the headphones, authorized dealer or not. I guess they only feel responsible for the state the headphone left their factory in and would not authorize anybody to make such changes to be covered by Beyers warranty...
