Well, this is a simple little Beyer mod... don't know which headphones this applies to but works with the DT831...

So, just remove the black pad and thats it, I find the sound a touch clearer...

To do this, you will need to lodge something between the pad and the earcup plastic, like a butter knife (like how the instructions say so). Be careful though, the driver is more vulnerable (I already somehow got the thin piece of paper that covers the driver to rip off).

It also is a touch more comfortable to my ears since they do not touch anything any more, as they used to touch the black padding...

Putting a knife to your headphones - science is cruel, let me tell you. But if it works for you...

There might be a reason these headphones are constructed the way they are, besides protecting the drivers. This black pad might affect the equalization of the phone, it might prevent standing waves at well. Therefore I am curious: Does "clearer" primarily mean more transparent or could it mean "with slightly changed tonal balance" as well? Do you have the impression that your mod changes frequency response in any way? One more question: Do I have a butter knife?

Yep, knifes are cruel, just use the blunt side... or just get some thin piece of metal you can stick in to pry the pad off.

The impression I get is that the midbass is actually lowered (I know, this might seem the last thing to do with beyers) but IMHO it sounds more transparent and cleaner, and the bass seems a bit tighter. Its a very subtle sound change though.
