iPhone 4 questions

Thread Starter

Now that the iPhone is finally out in the public there should be some opinions on its sq. I have been searching to see what dac it uses. Does anyone know for certain? I've heard people say it "probably" uses the same dac as the 3gs, the cirrus dac but does anyone have proof of what dac? But more importantly anyone have any impressions on the sound quality?

My phone contract is currently up and being in Canada I guess I have the "luxury" of waiting to be able to buy it (thanks Quebec for making me wait). I am either thinking of buying the iPhone 4 and use that as my dap or buy an Android device like the HTC Triumph and then another dap such as a fuze. I mainly listen to lossless files with TF10's or IE8's and will be using a iBasso T3 (just traded my RSA Hornet M which I miss already)with an iPhone 2g via lod. While happy with it I know it isn't the greatest source. So any impressions of the iPhone 4 would be great.

I'd also love the dac and sound quality. I think this thread needs to be renamed though to iPhone 4 SQ impressions or Vs 3Gs etc

According to ifixit.com:

Cirrus Logic 338S0589 audio codec (Apple branded). This is the same part as in the iPad.

So boys and girls, how does the 3GS sound compared to the iPad? Please tell me iPad is better

I kind of thought my 3G sounded better than the 3GS I returned it for.  But a direct comparison was not made.  I just remember that the HD650 actually sounded decent on the 3G but not as much on the 3Gs.

All I know is that my contract is over in Sept and I'm tired of not having the phone I really want. For me, it's down to the Motorola Droid X & the iPhone 4. Really, I'm so confuddled it's unbelievable. I know the SQ of the iPhone will be similar to the 3GS and my 64gb touch, but the Droid X is the wildcard.

I hope the Droid X gets a real media playback app, so I can decide if an EQ settig or not would be right for me. As it's stands now my Moto Droid has pretty solid SQ, but it needs the option to customize the SQ to my liking - I'm a big stickler on that.

Anyways, I hope SOMEONE gets a iPhone 4 and compares it to not only the iPhone 3GS, but please compare it to the iPod touch 32gb or 64gb models - I would greatly appreciate it myself.

Also, to the OP, sorry for the long winded comments, finalized by a question,........I'm not a thread hijacker - please forgive me.

Or you could just get headphones that don't need to be EQ'd.

I have both the iPhone 4 and iPad. I use a Fiio LOD L1 with either Sony mdr-xb700 or Denon AH-C751 via Fiio e7 or e5. E7 sounds much better. I listen to every type of music. I prefer the sound on the iphone 4 but there is not much to call. The iPad is not as warm, a little more neutral. Still often sit at weekend for hours listening via iPad. My setup sounds wonderful with jazz, vocal, rock too and opera. Classical is very neutral but I like that.
