I know. I'm good friends with a tube amp-aholic who just happens to be getting his PhD at Stanford in electrical engineering and building a McIntosh clone as we speak! He's a good friend to have, indeed.

I also forgot about Emotiva! It appears that the combo of their preamp + 2-channel amp might be a giant killer. Plus a built-in headphone amp...hmmm.

If you are thinking about the emotiva  UPA-2 amp be prepared for a fairly sterile and cool sounding amp.  No body to vocals, no wood to acoustic wood instruments, etc.  My little Trends 10 watt amp sounded better in my system.  It rarely needs more than 5-10 watts though.

A good and I mean really good option is the Virtue Audio amps.  Fantastic sound and relatively low cost.

Got the Jolida in and set up with these tubes:

-NOS RCA 12AT7

-NOS GE 12AX7 long plate

-New Winged "C" EL34

So far it is amazing!! I have a lot more music to play before I get the total picture of this amp, but I love it so far. Zero hum and such a nice, warm tone!

Definitely not regretting my purchase!

I ended up getting the Jolida 302B (used) for $450....I cannot wait to hear it!

Is that the American Jolida or the Chinese Jolida?

It is from early 2007. I think it was made in China with final assembly in Maryland.
