Hey all--
So, I've been out of the new-gadgetry loop for a while now (my wallet thanks me), but I'm back by force. My 5.5g Rockbox'ed iPod Video is on the way out -- it's getting steadily blinkier by the day, both I think because of random assorted Rockbox bugs and the slowly dying battery. Which means I'm looking for a new portable audio player.
Naturally, I come to throw myself upon the wisdom of the Head-Fi gadget folks.
Can't-budge requirements:
- quality line-out accessible somehow (after all, this is Head-Fi)
- Vorbis support (inc. VBR, if there's still any players that can't take VBR...)
Nice things to have:
- flash storage (sick of these damned HDD-based players)
- a (relatively easily) replaceable battery
- durability
Things I don't care about:
- The power output on the line-out. I've got a headphone amplifier wherever I go these days.
- The capacity, as long as you're north of 4 or 8 GB. I can get to files to transfer pretty easily, and I don't listen to that much music at any one time. My collection's not all going to live on this thing.
What are peoples picks these days for a player like this? The Vorbis folks keep a pretty good list of portable players, but I never know whether the decoders/outputs on them are anything more than junk.
No need to post big reviews or anything, just give me some names so I know where to go to start searching the forums!
