Stanley Clarke - Stanley Clarke Band

IF you like "School Days" and "I Wanna Play for You" and some RTF, then you MUST get the "Stanley Clarke Band" release.

This is an awesome recording, with tracks that sound like they could have been lifted from either of the above recordings.  It's the CD that makes me say, "Stanley, where have you been with this great $ht!?!?!"  He's sort of returned to the sound of his earliest recordings, which means it's a bit eclectic (but that's a great thing, right), with with heavy dose of (early) fusion, with a sprinkling of rock guitar, and just a tad of acoustic bass thrown in for good measure.

I bought this without listening to any of it and was generously rewarded with some great tunes.  This isn't the so-called "fusion" jazz of today, which really sounds more like plain-Jane instrumental music.  It's much more adventurous than that.

There is, however, one track (about global warming) that..well, the music fits right in, but the narrative should have been left out.  Just my opinion.

If you're a fan of early Stanley, do give this a listen.

Cheers.

I'll have to check it out.  I love Jean Luc Ponty so I'm sure I'll like Clarke's solo stuff.

I still have "Lopsy-Lu" in heavy rotation, but haven't kept up with Stanley much at all for decades -- it's cool just to be reminded to check him out, and reassured it's not all "smoove", lightweight stuff.

Hmmm, noted. I only have "School Days" and never bothered to check anything else out, but your post has piqued my interest.
