Re-cabled AKG K240M, $40

AKG K240M (600 ohm) re-cabled with a very high quality polyurethane-insulated 300v copper-core 26x6 (2 per channel) cable and a high-quality 1/4" plug. After the recabling, the sound opened up and became much more immediate, which I think is the kind of improvement K240M needs. I also placed a thin layer of paper behind the side vents (see pic 2), which benefited transparency. In my opinion, the sound quality of this pair is about 20-30% better than that of stock. Because of the material of the insulation, the cable is not super flexible (I have never had any problem with it, and actually prefer the sturdiness).

Cosmetically, the phones are in OK to Good shape. The headband is in great shape. The pads, though showing some wear, still have many years left. I took out the inner black foams inbetween the pads and the drivers to gain some needed transparency. It worked very well but I couldn't locate those forms any more. I could not locate the metallic labels on both sides either (took them out during the recabling). I replaced the two tiny screws that secure the outer plastic caps with heavier-duty ones.

To sum it up, the phones are 100% functional and sturdy. They may look bad (mostly due to the lack of labels), but they sound significantly better than stock.

$40 is a very reasonable price. If I can't sell them at this price, I will keep them. Shipping is extra. I will ship in whichever way you prefer, but tracking is required. I already have the box with bubbles and will not charge extra for those. I would estimate that the shipping fee to the lower 48 states (preferred) would be $5-10. I only do Paypal and will eat the fees myself.
