Earphone Recommendations ~$50

Thread Starter

I'm a casual listener looking for a set of earphones that can cater to my needs. I listen mainly to metal/rock (i.e. - Metallica, Trivium, Velvet Revolver etc.), with the occasional dance/electronic (i.e. - Daft Punk, Justice)

I'm not familiar with any audio terminology so I'll try my best to describe stuff as simply as possible.

I use a Cowon D2+. I have a pair of VModa Vibes which have the level of bass impact I like, but it feels slightly unrestrained and can sometimes overpower the vocals on some songs. Instruments are reasonably clear for my tastes, but not as clear as my Brainwavz M1. My M1s are more balanced, everything is a bit more 'tight' so to speak, instruments sound clear and seperated. The bass on the M1s isn't exactly my cup of tea though. Overall (bass and volume wise) it sounds much softer than the Vibes.

If someone could help me (taking into consideration this criteria):

- I'd like to have something with bass that wont drown out vocals and isn't too harsh on other instruments (i.e. - Loud cymbals that fatigue my ears after a while, if that makes any sense)

- Reasonable instrument separation (I'm not too keen on having something that is 'in your face' kinda sound)

- Something that can fit into my tight budget of AUD$55-60 (USD$50) inc shipping

Thanks

To be honest I think anything in the $50 range will be a downgrade from the M1 in clarity and separation. If you want an earphone with similar technical capabilities but a slightly warmer/softer sound a bit more bass I would recommend the ViSang R02, but the M1 and R02 are not upgrades from each other but rather different interpretations of the same sound. Other than that, i think you'll need to up your budget if you expect to improve on the M1 in significant ways.
