I am just addicted to him! I've been renting his DVDs and he's amazing. Anyone else a fan of him?

I'll see what it's all about when his new Italian restaurant opens in Hong Kong

Who? I only know John Oliver and I think he is quite funny.

He's opening an Italian restaurant in HK? wow. I'd love to try. Anyone know the price range?

I don't really respect Jamie that much as a chef, but he seems to intend good. Much of his cooking technique is so flawed it hurts. I remember one episode where he made a "fish stew" where he boiled the fish pieces for 20 minutes, which was over double what he needed. Nothing is worse than overcooked fish.

Heston isn't really much better. He barely visits his restaurant, the Fat Duck. My current roommate was a trainee there for 3 months. Although I still respect his mindset and what he attempts to accomplish.

I'm much more for Rene Redzepi, who actually spends a fair amount of time in the kitchen.

Where's the steak?

I'm a reformed carnivore, you can be too ;)

In all seriousness, steak is unsustainable and unhealthy.  Nothing wrong with the occasional delicious steak dinner, but if you're eating it more than once a month, you're eating too much.  I only say so in this thread because this is (more or less) Oliver's new message as well.  I agree that his technique and recipes can be amateurish, but he's aiming at the right goalposts, so to speak.

What about steak cake?

Steak Cake

Red velvet cake with italian meringue butter cream topped with chocolate fondant, fondant mushrooms & grilled asparagus. Vanilla cake baked potato.

Can't beat steak...

You must have better sources than I do, all the news I read said Italian 'restaurant' ... But an Italian sandwich shop wouldn't be bad. I think the locals would take quite well to a Porchetta, Hkers would love roast pig sandwich.

Of all the tv chef personalities, no one annoys me more than him. His tips and techniques suck as does his recipes. I used to have 3 of his books. While very nicely illustrated, they were about as useful to cooking as a national geographic. I gave them away.

With the thousands of great places to eat in HK, his place will be the last i'd visit.

yea, I always skip the TV, books and promotional material and go straight to the restaurant. That went for Danny Meyer, Morimoto, Jean-George and everyone else...
