Grado SR80's with ControlTalk Cable

Thread Starter

So I've been lurking the forums here for a little while, and I've decided I want the Grado SR80's.  However... I want to use them with my iPhone.  I know the cables are split Y cables.  What I was wondering was if you could buy the Monster ControlTalk cable and mod the cans to a one-sided earphone jack in order to use the cable.  I've been looking online  for the stereo jack to connect the cables from both speakers to, but I guess I just don't know where to look.

Is it as easy as I think it is or is there more to it than just running a cable through the headband to one side and connect them to a stereo 1/8" jack for the ControlTalk cable?

Also... can you even buy a ControlTalk cable without buying a new pair of Monster Beats by Dre?

Any help would be great!

EDIT: OK... so I may have put this in the wrong forum as I just discovered the DIY forum.  Hopefully that is ok.

You got the idea with running the cable through the headband.  It takes some coaxing but it can me done.  There are a few threads on how to do that in the DIY.  If you soldier any wire within the can that may move, be sure to secure it as it will break the wires after the cup swivels enough times.

The ControlTalk cable is only available though monstercable phone support as a replacement part.  I cant remember but its between $35 and $45 so its not cheap.
