Hi all.
I just received these from their original owner (sophonax) yesterday. I took them out of the box, listened to them for an hour or so... and my music computer died (HDD failure)... So before I got to know them they are back up for sale. I need to fix my computer as I need music! So I need to sell them now.
I'm using sonophax's post (edited, and with his permission) for descriptions and analysis. They will be shipped out, just as they were received from him, in the original box, with the certificate of authenticity and mod, from Lawton Audio.
Remember, the D2000 and D5000 share the same drivers and structure. These receive from Lawton, upgraded cables (D5000 / 7000) terrminated with a serious 1/4" Neutrik jack, sonic dampening and gorgeous Silky Oak cups. They also receive the fiberfilled stuffing of the pads to give them the J$-like treatment. Here's a link to the Lawton Audio site describing these cans: http://lawtonaudio.com/page5.html. Price from Lawton: $769 + shipping.
I want to keep this CONUS and PayPal 'Gift'. Was $575... Now just $530 includes shipping and insurance. I can't afford to sell for less...
Below is from sophonax's original post...
These were purchased from and modified by Lawton Audio in March of this year, and they probably have a total of about 100 (+1) hours of use. As far as I can tell, they are in exactly the same condition as when I first received them.
When I first bought these headphones, I also owned a pair of stock Denon AH-D7000s. Since the D7000s and LA2000 Lites were about the same price, I thought it was fair to compare the two headphones head-to-head. To me, the LA2000 Lites were the clear victors, and I liked them so much that I sent my D7000s in to Lawton Audio to get mods done on them as well.
These LA2000 Lites are very similar to my LA7000 Lites.
Speaking sonically, these headphones are awesome. If you are looking for a lush, highly euphonic headphone, look no further. This pair of LA2000 Lites has all the characteristic bass of the stock Denons, except much tighter and more articulate. With these, you get well-defined, tonally-accurate bass, not the generic, one-note bass fart of the stock D2000s. Also, the markl mods have helped to bring the mids forward on these headphones. The best way I can describe their sound is that they sound like a cross between a pair of stock Denons and a pair of Grados -- with tighter, better bass than either. With their fun, euphonic sound, these make a great complement to a more neutral-sounding headphone.
Below are some pictures of the headphones. I tried to capture the beauty of the wood, but you just can't do it with a camera. Also, I tried to take a couple pictures of the very minor cosmetic flaws. There are a few, very small indentations in the metal around the ear cups, and there are a couple of very minor chips in the edge of one of the ear cups. These are hardly noticeable, and they were there when I first received them from Lawton Audio, but I just wanted to let it be known before anyone makes an offer on these headphones.
These will ship in the original D2000 packaging, with the certificate of authenticity from Lawton Audio.
Thanks for your interest, and feel free to PM me with offers!
Thanks for looking.
