Is my "intro to vinyl" plan any good?

Pioneer PL-990 TT and a Shure M97XE Cartridge

I don't want to get a used TT because I want something new, with warranty, that works and will work in the foreseeable future.  Also the PL-990 seems to have a pre-amp that'll output an RCA connection which will make it very easy to hook it up to my Audioengine A5's without need for a photo->rca gadget in between.

Thoughts?

hey that cartridge is quite good sq wise. I installed it with help from an experienced audiophile, and he was quite impressed by this "cheap" cart's performance. I got it up and running on my technics sl 1700 and what a difference from some random cart I purchased it with. Also the brush in the front removes so much dirt from my cleaned, washed LPs which I also clean with antistatic brush each time before playing.

I purchased used but it gave me whole lot of trouble.

Any more comments on the turntable choice?

The preamp is a major point in such a situation.  If you still have your card etc, you can run your TT through your PC audo system to add some extra features on there.
