Aftermarket/Custom Cable worth it?

I'll start off by saying I'm not an avid audio guy. At the moment I'm going more for durability than quality, though I'd wager they often go hand in hand? Anyways. I have a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 (pro?). I've had them for 5 years. The first set of cables lasted a year or so, then due to the plug that goes into the device, they went all crackly and the sound would go in and out on one side or the other. Then I got a replacement. Then this last year I got replacements through M-Audio, and I went through 3 cable replacements in 5 months. I get tired of it. My question is, would I have better luck buying one of these special replacement cables from ebay, something for <50$. Could I expect them--the plug--to last a lot longer?

I am definitely not a certified person to answer this, but I will put in my 0.02. I am not sure what the standard cable is on the Superfi 5s, but I would say that a replacement cable with silver plated OFC wire would be more than sufficient to give excellent sound characteristics. I have one question that will help me answer your question, what plugs are you talking about? The ones that go into the earphones or the one that goes into the output of your device?

Great question I edited the OP to clarify-- I meant the plug into the device.

A cheap alternative would be to try to repair the ones you have. I put a link on how to change the plugs, it isn't hard at all and maybe will take 5-10 minutes, even for a beginner. I hear the ViaBlue T6s plugs are one of the best. I'm not sure of the quality of previous cables, but if you don't mind spending more or want to go through changing the plug, you can buy the pre-made cables. Of course these cables will be easier as you won't have to do anything, and they will more likely sound better because they look like they use very good quality cables and materials. Of the list you provided, I only see two (under or very close to $50) that I would chose because of the level of plug. The two I am looking at look like their plug is very decent, and should provide you a little more use time that your previous cables. The one is around $40 shipped, and the other around $52 shipped. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. They are both by the same person, so i'm sure they both use similar parts. Personally, I think it would be better to get the more expensive one, because you will notice it has a cover on part of the cable. If this is not a concern to you, just get the cheaper one. Keep in mind the more expensive one will probably sound better, but of course, I don't know your financial status and i'm not going to ask. I have looked and this seller seems to have a very good reputation and it seems like his products are extremely well, so good that I think your earphones may sound better than when you got them =)  Well, hope I was some what of help and I hope your choice leads you to many hours of great music listening. Peace and God bless =)

Link to site that sells them: http://www.av-outlet.com/          ***Go to this site then go over to 'Cables and Connectors' then scroll down to 'Audio Cable Adapters' then go down about half way. They are 10.59 each but I hear they are fantastic plugs and they would be a much cheaper alternative to a whole new cable.

I replied with a big answer, and I guess it may take a while to answer, being that I am a new member. I don't feel like retyping it all now, but if it doesn't go through, I can wait and try again tomorrow. Hope it works

**Never mind, its up now******

Hope it helped =)

God bless
