The toslink should be very similar to this:
The Mini to 1/4" should be female on the mini side, 1/4" male on the other side. It will be used as an adapter to connect to an amp.
The Toslink should be male/male, 6 feet.
They should both be as thick as required to ensure no loss of signal. Flexibility doesn't matter much (as long as it isn't TOO inflexible). I will not put the cables under heavy stress but I assume any cable made for this commission should be relatively durable and not exceedingly fragile. I do pay extra for aesthetics I find beautiful (it'd be nice if you could tie a single red ribbon near one end of the toslink and in the middle of the Mini-1/4". Preferred colours for the cable include black, white, and red - also please do use gold plated connectors at the jacks for the Mini-1/4".
A cable like this is ideal: http://www.avbestbuy.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_30_252&products_id=803&osCsid=f97bf104279d87ec960597e55f37a18b
(Though with a red ribbon instead of a band. Connectors can be straight or angled, it doesn't matter)
I'm not asking for anyone to beat that price, but I want to try out different cables and see what I prefer. If possible, try to make the cable as 'reference' or neutral as possible - add and detract nothing. If you are DIYing it - please provide proof that you can handle a project and past works. However, I'm not looking to spend a fortune on cables - so bear that in mind.
Thanks,
Matt
Edit: I'm an idiot - COMPLETELY changed the second query.
