I just got an e-mail tonight from the Thomas Dolby fan community.  He's got an EP out now called Amerikana with 3 tracks on it only for the community (but you can buy it since I'm providing the link -- I don't think you have to sign up).  It cost $3.  Pretty interesting stuff, very different from his past work.  Track 3 is the best, and has guitar by Mark Knopfler and was recorded in Knopfler's studio.  He will also have two full length albums coming out in 2010.

Here's the link if you want to read about it and purchase it:

Unfortunately they are only 256kbps VBR MP3 files, but it also comes with a digital booklet and printable cover.

Based on what I read in the letter (which I'm sure you also read?) it seems like these songs are 1 set out of 3 EP sets that will be released prior to the album.  This first EP set is called Amerikana.  The second and third EP sets will be called Oceanea and Urbania.  Each set has 3 songs.  I imagine the other two sets will also be charged for.  The actual album will be called A Map Of The Floating City.  There is also one more song he gave out for free a month or so back from the upcoming album. I will try to find it on my hard drive and post it here, since it was free and redistributable.

The music is very different than his previous work.

El_Doug,

I was surprised to get a personal response back from Thomas after inquiring about lossless files and thanking him for the new music.

"Hi Phil

There won't be anything lossless until the whole album comes out. At that point I may do higher quality than 44.1k as well. Sorry, you'll have to wait! But glad you are enjoying the EP.

Best,

Thomas"

That sounds promising -- high-res audio!

This is good news.  It's great to see Thomas is back.  He was a shining talent in eighties pop.  I will look forward to the album.  Until then I hope you find that track on your HD.

TIA!

By the EP you cheapskate! It's only 3 bucks and worth every penny. Mark Knopfler guitars thrown in for good measure!

^ I'll be buggered if I'm spending one cent on lossy files. I really don't see the point, even if I can't tell the difference.  I'd much rather spend my hard-earnt on a tangible object that is not missing any information, whether that info is perceptible or not.

Apologies for the digression.  Nice video btw.  Amazing sound quality for streaming internet.
