or

imod- AlgoRhythm Solo  - jh 3a- jh16?

since the algorythm solo is asynch digital output out of the ipod, being an iMod would not help in this case at all. they would theoretically sound identical.

though i thought that maybe the Solo wouldnt work with the iMod, i might have heard wrong though

one more question, does ipod with rockbox support 24/96 when use it with Solo?

and "out of topic", which ipod has biggest hdd for use with rockbox?

Hi thehadi,

The iMod is either a modded 4G, 5G, or 5.5G iPod.

The Solo is designed to work with 6G and newer, along with iPhone and iPad - it is not designed to work with iPods that

are older than 6G.

And as far as I know, iPods cannot transfer higher than 16/44.1 via it's USB output.

It might be possible with an iPhone and iPad if an App is written to transfer higher res data out of the USB port...

Best regards,

Vinnie

Hi,

How long will the battery last? Thanks.

When will Solo be at the market?

If you look on the Cypherlabs website, it states "Product ship date to be announced this fall"

Hi krakadilgena,

When you connect the Solo to an iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch - the Solo will also charge these devices (but it won't for an iPad).  These are Apple's requirements - not ours.

So assuming that your iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch is already charged when you connect it to a fully charged Solo, you will get at least 8 hours continuous, off-the-grid (i.e. only battery powered) play time with the Solo.

If you plug in the Solo's charger, it will charge both the Solo and iPod's batteries at the same time and you can leave them plugged in indefinitely (great if you are looking to burn-in 24/7 ).

Yes - regarding ship-date, we are aiming for this Fall.

Thanks for all your interest (and patience) while we finish what will be a fantastic product!

Best regards,

Vinnie

The AlgoRythm Solo does not have a built-in headphone amp. It offers two outputs - an analog output (from its internal, premium grade Wolfson dac) that you can feed to your headphone amp, and it offers a digital s/pdif coax output (to feed an external dac of your choice).

Since the AlgoRythm Solo will be Apple Certified "Made for iPod, Made for iPhone, Made for iPad" - we certainly had to get Apple licensing and pass their certification tests.

Hope to see you guys at RMAF CamJam this October in Denver!

Vinnie, Thanks for the great project. I have a few questions regarding the Solo.

1. What type of analog output does the Solo has? Mini, RCA, XLR, 1/4"?

2. What is the purpose of feeding a digital a/pdif coax output to another DAC in a portable setting? or even in a home setting if the Solo Dac is good enough?

3. Given the slew of balance portable amps that are coming up. Is there a way for the Solo to output a balance signal to an external amp, if not do you have any plan to add any balance output to the current design?

These are truely exciting times for portable audiofiles. We are seeing things that we can only dream of just a year or two ago. Many thanks for taking the initiative to create something to fill the gap from source to headphones.

Hi Jalo,

1) 1/8" stereo mini jack

2) The Solo's internal dac is very nice indeed, but everybody has different tastes in dacs, and many already have their favorites and really want the best product on the market for delivering a digital output from Apple's products to their dac.  Unlike other products that provide a digital output from Apple products (iPod, iPhone, iPad), the Solo offers:

- Async mode transfer of the USB data from the Apple product, and reclocking via its internal precision master clock (for the cleanest digital output signal, as well as the cleanest digital signal to feed its internal dac).

- Lithium battery power operation (no cheap switching AC/DC converters, no AC line noise, etc)

- Shortest signal paths (it's portable with a very clean internal layout)

This is the best sounding iPod to s/pdif converter for the reasons above, and it will be equally suite for home audio or portable audio use.

3) No plans for balanced.

Thank YOU and thank you to all our customers, distributors, reviewers, etc. who are waiting to get their hands on the Solo when it hits the market, and for all your enthusiasm and support - we really appreciate it!

Vinnie:

Thanks for the very informative response. One follow up question if I may, the digital signal coming out of the digital out (s/pdif-coax) of the Solo is directly coming from the digital signal and not coming through the internal DAC right? In other words, the internal DAC only output to the analog out.

Hi Jalo,

Yes, this is correct.  The s/pdif is totally separate from the internal dac.

Best regards,

Vinnie

How long before the batteries will have to be replaced and can this be done by the user? Thanks.

and also, does it work with Nimh batteries?

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delayed response...

Heck no!      Lithium-Ion batteries

Yes, they will be user-replaceable.  Cycle life should be in the neighborhood of 1000 cycles... so depending on how often you use it, the batteries could last a few years...

All the best,

Vinnie

"Algorhytm Solo" or "Algorhythm Solo"?

I hate to be pedantic but it is important for an efficient search on Google.
