"Available in black or silver with prices starting at $579"-

is the price difference due to carbon fiber and aluminum? or is there other options we can choose?

also, still not clear on the product. for iphone and ipod it allows to extract digital out and can be used with external DAC+AMP. (similar to ipad+camera kit? or will there be an improvement due to parts and implementation?)

or alternatively you can get analog conversion through its internal DAC and attach it with external amp (say RX or any other.)

also, will there be any initial discounts for pre-order?

thanks

Hi LevA,

Thank you for your post.

The aluminum enclosure will be $579, the carbon fiber if available will be more.

The AlgoRhytm will have a hi grade DAC on board, better than what is in the ipod, and will export to analog mini out, as well as have a SPDIF for your home DAC to use. Regading the camera kit with ipad:

The USB audio from iPad via camera kit does not support asynchronous audio data format (AlgoRhytm is asynchronous!).  Only the lesser TI USB chips seem to pull audio from iPad via the camera kit.  This means 2 things:

1) iPad camera kit USB audio will be full of jitter.

2) the only way to get around the limitations of this synchronous data transfer is to feed the iPad a "pure" clock signal, so that the iPad digital audio clocks to the "pure" clock - this is what Algorhythm does.

Thank you for your intrest in pre orders. At this time we have not yet made decisions on pre ordering anything yet... please stand by.

Ken

Looking forward to the next-gen iPod Touch with 128GB Flash..  http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/17/toshiba-cooks-up-128gb-nand-flash-for-next-gen-phones-and-pmps/

Alas, most likely we'll still have the limitations of not being able to play high-bitrate files, unless an unexpected change in design priorities.

"Using the world's most popular music player, phone and now iPad in asynchronous mode, the AlgoRhytm Solo allows the use of a much higher-grade DAC chip capable of processing 24/96."

Any plans on offering a custom bag for iPhone, AlgoRhytm, and amp?

While the DAC chip inside the Solo may be capable of processing 24/96, the iTunes/iPxd DAP platform as a whole currently limited to 16/44.1 or 16/48KHz sampled content.

As the OP stated, the async transfer mode allows them to overcome the limitations and artifacts associated with sync transfer mode thru USB, such as the jitter, but the DAP firmware itself must support native decoding of 24/96 to be able to pass on to the 24/96 DAC chip inside the Solo.

Even if you try to Rockbox the iPod (up to 5.5 gen), you may get additional capabilities such as FLAC support and you may copy higher bitrate files, but they will be downsampled to the lower resolutions above.  You can find more info here:  http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Playing-2496-files-iPod-0

Does the AlgoRhythm Solo have the USB streaming feature from a computer (PC or Mac)?

DanBa,

No sorry, we are focusing on architecture that works with the ipod, iPhone, nano etc...

"AlgoRhythm Solo ... Designed to match in size and audio character with the ALO RxMark 2 headphone amp"

What are the differences between the ALO Rx and the ALO RxMark 2?

Thanks!
