Shure SE535: Reviews and First Impressions Thread - Page 212

I loved my shure 535SE but found that the base was extremely anemic and lacking, I am now thinking of buying the regular 535 which I read had rolled of highs so I don't know if I will like them as much. Any recommendations for a 535 sound but with more bass I can't afford the 846 btw.

Maybe filter rolling is for you ?

I know the Shure 846 has more bass but for the price you might as well buy a custom.

If you need more bass out of a universal then I would stick with dynamic drivers.  Just my opinion.

Probably you should try tip rolling on your 535SE first.

SE535 with Arrow 3G amp's bass boost circuit; best bass ever with the SE535's .. the 3G version is the best with the Shures...

Otherwise, if you can get a Cowon J3, it's Jet Effects and otherwise EQ effects can really transform the 535's ...

I used to use my 535's with the above mentioned 3G Arrow amp ... but not since my S:flo 2 was sold .. now I use the Cowon J3 with the 535's and it's awesome ...

Agree. The J3 is an excellent little device for it's EQ, portability and battery life.

Just placed on order for the FiiO X3 to go with my SE535s. I find the IPC rockboxed I have sucks when i am playing some 24bit files. (seems to have the highs and lows cut off)

Hopefully the X3 is a good DAC.

Any owners of the X3 here paired with the SE535's?

Yup, I had that exact combo unfortunately I sold my SE535's but I loved the sound. It pairs extremely well the only thing I found was lacking was a bit of bass I would try to use the bass setting on the X3 but I didn't make a drastic improvement everything else though sounded amazing.

Me too ..i have the X3 and se535 ..... The sound is great better than the iPod this is for sure ..... But I found the sound some times a bit dark for my taste ....

The second thought...if you at planning to use mp3 and flacs only ..and not need a Usb dac or a powerful amp section of the x3 ...get sansa clip + or zip .....it sounds the same as x3 in a blind test with the 535 s

Too late, though i could return it.
But i might as well fork out the cash now then upgrade again later.

Plus i havent found a reseller for tge clip+ here in hk. Maybe i am just lazy.

So what do u mean by usb dac? The X3 can work as an amp as well?

what i meant by the amp of the player is it has a very powerful sound more than sansa ... more than ipod .. more than any portable player i've ever heard :L3000: so if you are planning to get full cans after a while you will not need an amp with it ... it can drive nearly any thing

the USB DAC is some what like an external sound card for your laptop or pc .... it took the digital sig. from your usb port then converts it to analog sound to your headphone .... x3 can do this with its superior DAC / AMP section is better than the internal sound card of many laptops and pcs
