A beautiful Blue Note Records collection in Poland

Hey guys, I wanted to share with you one of my recent music finds - "The Best of Blue Note Records".

It is not a "best of" collection of compilations. Two guys that are guru's of Polish jazz journalism have chosen 20 full length albums from Blue Note's catalog - all of them with a five star rating on Amazon or All Music Guide. Each album is released in a beautiful semi-book format with artist's bio and the story behind the session. It's worth to mention the sound quality which is great as most of those albums are Rudy Van Gelder's digital remasters. The price is also very attractive, less than $5 for each release (with shipping in Poland included!).

I am not a huge jazz fan, more of a blues-loving person, but those sessions all have that old-school late night feel of the hard-bop jazz, so close to the atmosphere of the blues. If you don't already own those Blue Note titles, you really should look into this collection.

Here you can find detailed info on artists, titles and music samples: http://www.polityka.pl/bluenote/.

Too bad the on-line store that carries this collection doesn't deliver outside of Poland as it is a real treat for jazz loving Head-Fiers.

Very nice find Prezemek, where on the shelf do they reside in proximity to the Garth Brooks I sold you?

Hey Alex, if we speak about physical length, they are about 100 discs and two rooms apart - I had to put my new CD shelf next to the bathroom as there was no more space for CD-shelves in my room. I have a strange CD storage system - I don't use alphabet to catalog discs, I just put the new one next to the old one on my shelf, then the next one and the next one. So if I am to find something I go by date of receiving/purchasing the album instead alphabet. Unusual, but works for me.

Those Garth Brooks' discs get regular spins as I have started my cowboy boots wearing season for this year :-).

And you are right, the Blue Note collection is a nice find - fantastic, well remastered albums in beautiful packing at a low price. Too bad they don't ship it outside Poland.

Prezmek, should you ever decide to use a catalogue system for you collection I recommend Music Collector. I've been using it for about 5 years and love it.  Collectorz is a Dutch company, very cool guys. They have a sample software package you can try for free.

Thanks Alex. I do catalogue my albums but using a simple Excell sheet divided by months. Like: May 2010, CD1, CD2, CD3, etc. June 2010, CD1, CD2, CD3, etc. This way I know when I received/bought a particular CD and therefore where it is located on my shelf :-). But I will check out the system you suggested, even just for fun. Thanks!
