Need to replace my multimeter. Budget $150 or preferably less.

I'm currently looking at the Fluke 115 Compact True-RMS Digital Multimeter and the Fluke 17B. Anyone happen to have a better suggestion? It needs to be decent enough for basic amp building, matching resistors, getting a halfway decent reading on capacitance, and have auto-ranging. TIA. My Craftsman has held out long enough and I need a few more features.

I have a Protek 608 for sale in the FS threads. It has been a good meter for me, and was a recommendation from Morsel. I finally succumbed to a Fluke 89-V, but that was >2x what the Protek is used.

Good to know Pars, thanks for the heads up. I'm going to do a little more research and I'll let you know if I decide on the Protek.

I've survived on an analog for many years now...going with a Fluke for sure!

A member of the forums here gave me a very nice price on a slightly used Fluke 179, which should be more than enough for my humble builds ;)

Cool!

I think I may keep the Protek anyway, because it does several things the Fluke 89 I bought doesn't, such as Zener diodes.

One should never have only one meter. :)  I try to keep at least three around, 2 of which I can trust highly and one I don't mind nuking.

^ I have an HP 3468B as well, plus the Harbor Freight "nuke bait"

Great minds and all that.

I've used a number of Velleman meters, they seem to be of quite good quality without breaking the bank as much as a Fluke.

I just bought my first Fluke
