What does IC mean?

Thread Starter

Every time I look in the ForSale forums I see all these posts with IC acronymn but am not sure what IC means. All I can come up with is "I Am Considering". Is that correct? If they are only considering why put it in the For Sale forums?

interest check

^ That is correct....  Once there is interest the person will post a price and turn it into a FS (For Sale)

It's mostly used to make auctions, it will go the highest bidder in PM

Interest Check it is...

Does anyone else here hate ICs??

I REALLY hate then people use ICs to artificially start a PM auction.  When it is clear that a long-posted IC with several bumps is definitely an item for sale without a posted price, it brings my piss to a boil.

That being said, I understand legitimate ICs, and have actually done one myself in the past - it is a useful tool

I do not.

As long as they are real interest checks and not just a way to run a silent auction by PM.

Integrated circuit was what I first came up with...

Well like you mention, real interest checks are okay, I just see quite a few I suspect are silent auctions.

I thought it stood for Ice Cream! I just kept leaving threads disappointed.

I agree that it's most likely abused by many to hold silent auctions, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if from a reputable seller. I'm sure it has saved a lot of sales from going to places like eBay and therefore spreading more of the aural goodness at home.

^^ true but recently I have seen a few sales threads with links to ebay. seems like they are putting their stuff on the auction site and trying to get more bidders by posting here.

though I prefer direct sales here on Head-fi, I haven't made up my mind if such practice is a good or bad thing..

I do have one IC thread that I would like to change but the new Head-Fi doesn't allow me to do so...) :
