HD800 withdrawal syndrome

So... at first I thought this thing called the HD800 looked like really cheaply made headphones. Plastic and all. Then I went to the Chicago head-fi meet. The Woo guys are very nice, let me listen to the headphones for quite a while really. Their booth was comfortable and their amps are all so pretty. To make a long story short, now when I listen to my K701, I am not satisfied anymore. I never shoulda tried them. Such a bad idea. I really should get out of graduate school and get a real job. Sucks to be poor.

Anyways, they're amazing. Good job Sennheiser for making me want to pay 1400 dollars for a pair of headphones. Never would of thought that was possible.

Yeah, I definitely had a "HOLY CRAP" moment when I tried them out.  They're really good, but thankfully not quite what I was looking for, so I don't have to lust after them.  Or the LCD-2s for that matter.

Guilty.

Walking around Yodobashi Akiba looking for my parents, managed to stumble into a place with every single high end can there was. ATH-W5000x, HD600, HD650, Stax stuff, didn't try all of it.

Then, in the middle of the lot, was a Luxman P-1u with a HD800 and Edition 8 coming out of it.

Stood there for 3 hours.

Went back the next day.

Stood there for 5 hours.

Left Japan the next day.

Wow. I'm just glad I never even have the opportunity to try out such fabled setups. Would make my life very, very miserable. I dread even reading about this stuff sometimes. Selling organs for headphones is not fun.

You stood for eight hours total listening to headphones? Impressive.

8 hours listening?? Did you buy anything then?

I tried all Staxes, the HD800, T1 and lately the D7000, didn't find that too wow, and I enjoy my setup even more than before. I am totally immune obviously, but the downside is that there is no real goal for upgraditis and gearitis left. Owing to circumstances, I have started to spend my gimmick funds on non-headphone-related stuff  meanwhile...sacrilege, sacrilege!!!!

You're doing it wrong.

... yes, that's dedication. If I was in Japan, I'd eat and buy plastic models all day.

Of course not, then I wouldn't be suffering from withdrawal.

This is becoming an expensive hobby.

Happiest lion in the world now.

Cheap? When I first bought the CD3000's the fact they were made of plastic didn't bug me at all, they were REALLY well put together.

And when I got my HD800's I was totally blown away, they feel SOOO good!, and sound even better!

So you bought them?

yaa.. I bought them. I figure I listen to music so much, it's worth the investment. I'm really happy though, they really do sound amazing.

How do they sound on your setup vs. the woo audio setup?

And where can I find a lion like that? ^^
