My post-Isis foray into Post-Metal; not going well... - Page 2

Contrary to popular belief, Post-Metal and Sludge are mutually exclusive. They do not sound like each other at all

Year of No Light - Ausserwelt is one of the stronger post-metal releases of the year

I think you should check Gospel - Moon Is A Dead World. It's more post-hardcore than post metal, more agressive, less about the texture of sound, but I still find it somehow close. I like it more than eg Cult of Luna or Red Sparrow. And I definitely find it worth checking. Maybe start with 6th track: Opium.

Yea,

Gospel is indeed a great band, definitely worth checking out

Religious categorizations aside, I think Mastodon was a great suggestion.  I really like ISIS, and I would think anyone who did would really, really dig Mastodon, especially "Crack the Skye"

Burst - Origo might be of interest, but I put my bet on Minsk...

Edit: If Minsk doom and gloom is to OP liking, I also recommend Nadja:

I love Mastodon but I dont see the comparison here. Just completely different styles of music. Thanks for the rec tho.

off the topic of made-up genres of metal which no one can agree on because everyone has their own definition of each, maybe try fear factory?

Yoo know considering all the sub-genres of metal that I listen to (and a real love for industrial), I never got into Fear Factory.

Good place to start?

me neither really but based off of the isis music on their myspace, they sound similar.

Demanufacture is the best place to start in my opinion. You can get it as a 2 for 1 digipak with Remanufacture, the remixed version of it which also quite good. After that I would suggest my personal favorite, Archetype, which has a dark, moody sound to it.

Industrial metal.. I just have to mention Red Harvest, after 21 years in service they disbanded this May. Their most famous album is "Sick Transit Gloria Mundi" produced by Neil Kernon, but my favorite and their first really good album is "There's Beauty in the Purity of Sadness".

Songs ranging from industrial:

... to more of a droning into the post-metal field:

Also sorry for the off-topic, but does anyone know if the vinyl release of Wavering Radiant comes with a code for MP3 downloads (live many new vinyl releases do)?  I never picked WR up, and a vinyl/MP3 combo would be perfect...

It doesn't, at least my copy didn't...however i have another album on Conspiracy records which came with a download coupon ( the last Red Sparowes ) , and mp3s are 128k, so nothing really interesting; I made a vinyl rip on my own and it's much better, not surprising...

Yeah, that's the other alternative, of course, I can do vinyl rips at full CD resolution, but it's kind of a PITA.  Thanks for the info.  I've no interest in 128K MP3's.  No one should do that still.  Most of the LP's I have that came with downloads were at least VBR/192, and several were 320K!
