My post-Isis foray into Post-Metal; not going well...

First off, let me say that for the first time in a very long time, I am downright depressed about a band breaking up. IMO, ISIS is easily one of the most talented bands today and, to not hear what they could potentially release after the brilliant "wavering radiant" is just a darn shame.

I started a thread about a year back looking for other post metal bands that would both challenge and exhilirate me the way ISIS has done, and many recs were given. I went with the following:

Cult of Luna-Somewhere Along The Highway

Neurosis-Given and TSIB

Mouth of the Architect-The Ties that Blind

Jesu-Conqueror

Although the above are good, they just arent doing it for me. Maybe its unfair to compare everything else to ISIS, but none of these bands sound as dynamic or interesting to me.

Where to next?

Mastodon and Baroness

Try these:

Battle of Mice - A Day of Nights (2006)
Capricorns - Ruder Forms Survive (2005)
The Ocean - Fluxion (2004) or Precambrian (2007)
Pelican - Australasia (2003)

If you're still open to other albums by the bands you've already tried:

Neurosis - Souls at Zero (1992)
Cult of Luna - Salvation (2004)

Both of those bands' best albums imo. Also:

Neurosis - A Sun That Never Sets (2001)

Pelican. Anything by them, really. They do away with the screaming and rhytmic complexities of ISIS, but have much more melody and variety.

If you want some Melodic Crust, I could rec you some

From this year, try this:

I actually prefer the screaming and rhythmic complexities.

Rosetta -  very similar to isis. Can almost guarentee you'll like this if you dont want to stray far from the isis sound. Especially early/harder isis (celestial).

Russian Circles - instrumental post-metal you might like

Edit: Looks like rosetta has some new material out too. Also just wanted to mention Red Sparrowes, the guitarist from isis is in the band but its instrumental-progressive post rock.

As an aside, here is a link to Isis' set at Bonnaroo:

I'm glad I got to see them one last time in LA last week. Loudest show I've ever been too, though.

Neither are any of the bands listed in this thread. They're all sludge metal. Sorry to burst your bubble

Neurosis helped create the genre, I'd never try to compare any other band with them. I am a fan of Isis, but Neurosis is a whole different level.

I went to both of the Isis final NYC show, really good gigs.

Neurosis is where it's at

I agree with the others who recommended Rosetta, Pelican, and Russian Circles.  I would also add these other bands:  Callisto, Disappearer, and Trenches.

Russian Circles - Station

Russian Circles - Geneva

Like Isis , without the 'brutal' vocals (they are 100% instrumental) and with better songs/melodies.

My fav post-rock/metal band by far.

No bubbles have been burst.

Sludge is merely a sub-set of Post Metal. ISIS is indeed a post metal band.

BTW-does anyone know what Turners next project is?
