Actually my problem was that I was using my iMac to connect and do file transfers to the internal 16GB memory. I was having lots of issues last night, today i used a PC running XP and it went smoothly. Chances are I am messing up and thus why I am hoping for instructions to help "old pharts" like me.

Thanks I try!

Ok, as far as sound quality with very little burn in I LIKE IT! This of course is irrelevant to most since ideally you should listen to the unit to make up your mind. I did a quick comparison with the HM-801 using the same FLAC files loaded on both players and to me the sound with 16/44.1 files is very close to the point that if physical size of the player is an issue then go for the HM-602. Another thing besides price is that the HM-602 has a larger internal storage of 16GB over the 2GB in the HM-801. I hope to spend more time with these two players over the next couple of weeks and probably meet with other local users who should be able to provide additional feedback.

For the money specially with the free set of RE-262 this is a no brainer and worth every penny. More to come!

Did you receive the 262's

Hmm so I suppose I'll have to find an adaptor for the charger (aka. One's not supplied) to work in Australia?

It only came with the Type F Schuko Euro Plug adapter.  The charger itself is terminated with an ungrounded NEMA 5-15 plug, but is rated for 100-240 VAC, so you'll just need to get a plug adapter.

edwood, did you get a re262?

Outside of Mainland China, if you order an HM-601, a RE-262 will be included...no need to pick it when ordering. I got this straight from the horse's mouth.

No ifs, ands, or buttocks!

I was able to coerce Fang into lending me one of the final production units this weekend, and after 10 hours of listening, I think that most people (sans the naysayers) will be very happy with this unit. The major thing to remember, is not to compare the 602 to the 801. The 801 was the first of it's kind, and care

was used to find a synergy with top quality, expensive components, which also had the ability to change out the amp card and battery.

For half the price of the 801, the 602, provides great sound, soundstage and some really good detail.

If you don't or can't shell out the clams for the 801, then the 602 might be the answer. I have to do some blind tests with some of my other Daps in the $3-400 range.

The 601 is better than half the sound quality of the 801. It is a bargain at it's pricepoint, and plays the higher resolution files.

Better than half?  I think that's a potentially problematic quantification to make.  I haven't heard the 801 but I can't imagine it being twice as good let alone 8x's better than my Sflo2.  I also think most of your post went Houdini on you.

Ordered one. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

same boat as you hero where you get yours?

^ I just bought the one that looked the best to me on eBay. It was the cheapest (stupidly cheap) and the seller had the best feedback so yeah. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260610645374

midrange. It is very musical.

So you mention 601 and 602 I thought it is 602?

I also have a question, how does 602 compare to AMP3 which I was sort of liking, but the first one died within 30 days use and the replacement died in mid song after 5 more months listening, and cannot be charged and it's now dead and Craig is not answering my voice calls and never picks up the phone. some said it had a one year warantee but mine never had a written warantee to register, it was only a player in a box with no manual and no warantee.  But the base was never impressive with using the JH-13 and It did not feel like the JH13 was properly amplified, if I made it louder the ears hurt too much to excite the full range so there was would be a thrill in it like with Sure and the Zune. when I owned the sure 530 and played them with a Zune-120 there was a certain kind of excitement in the trumpets and trumbones and other parts witha full size sound stage --  a quickness that I loved, but the base was rolling off, so I sold them cheep to get the JH13 and now that I ordered the 602 I want to see what the JH13 sound like with the 602. Does it have enough power to excite the Senheiser HD800? or can I use a portable amp too amplify it even more

The AMP3 had at a volume of 8 100 hours of play, that maybe why it did not excite the JH13 to do what it can. The power supply may have been too constrained to last that long. we  gage amplifiers in RMS of wattage is there a measure for the power output of a portable player? if I used an additional amplifire from Jan Meier audio Move3 portable, which I own, will it destort the sound with 2 amplifiers? also each has a Doc in it. I guess I can wait till it gets here but I wanted to hear the input too :)

I use the Meier Head amp as a preamp and the sound is better in my speakers than the MacIntosh preamplifier with the Mac-2200 amp I am sure some of the amplifier

What I am really trying to say is with more power in the amp. we can listen with a lower volume and hear the details of full size speakers of high quality, tweeters and base, without a loudness kick in. we can have a conversation without shouting in a normal voice, and hearing full sound stage with a 400 watts/channel or even 200 Watts/ch will do. yet no one speaks of comparable wattage fractions so you know how the amps are rated for power output to  the earphones without loosing my ears, and yet hearing the excitement of music with Bass and treble in tact.

Sorry, I was writing on 3 hours of sleep and 10 hours of plane travel. I meant the 602's.

I have the Amp3 and hate it. With all of the IEM's that I have, it makes a whistling noise without the music on (probably when it's

on, too, just can't hear it as much). The Amp3's interface is one of the most primitive one's I've yet to encounter.

The Amp3 designers had some good ideas, but they blew it when it came to implementation. They have a long way to go with

their firmware.

It did, but in this case, Houdini didn't make it

My comparative analysis is a sitting duck that is just waiting to be shot down. I actually fell asleep with my hands on the keyboard.

When I woke up, I had a full page of "sssssssssssssssssssssss's" at the end of my post.

I'm not saying that the 801's are twice as good. That kind of conjecture is impossible to interpret. What I was trying to say, while drool

was headed towards my Canjam '08 tee shirt, was, that for half the money, the 602 is better quality than "just" half of the 801's. It's impossible

to put a number on something like this, but I would say that the headphone out is 80-90% as good. In this case, the diminishing gain on returns

is a great economic definition.

Let's go for this...If you have the money, then the 801 stands alone in it's own league in many ways. If you don't, then the 602 is a nice alternative

that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Is that better?
