liquid tension , steve vai fans...your help is required!

Hey guys..i got both of liquid tension exp' albums (1 and 2),the melodic guitar solos are absolutely the best i ever heard (track 3 from the first album!).   I need more of this stuff..badly!      except for "for the love of god" of steve vai i don't know any of his meterial.

but i must say that "for the love of god"  is one of the most beautiful melodies i ever heard.     what else can you guys recommend me?

please,I don't like that progressive, funk, jazz, blues (whatever..) "in between" parts in liquid tension..only the melodic parts.  you know what i mean..?   think "for the love of god" style.   think "another day" by dream theater (opening solo)...melodies like this.

thanks!

You might like Periphery. IMO, their songs are pretty catchy/melodic

Letter Experiment (primarily check out 1:46-2:43 and 3:12-5:15, with 4:29-5:15 being the guitar solo)

Jetpacks was Yes (solo is at 1:56-2:20)

thanks, i am right on it.

I must say that  a big part of the LTE fun is john petruccy's playing...simply breathtaking!

a good pronouncing of the notes on the guitar is important to get the feeling into the solo.

I will probably get the solo album of john petrucci called "Suspended Animation ". on first hearing it seems very promising..with john petrucci  i feel at home, its like listening to dream theater only without the lead singer

Joe Satriani's first solo album, "Not of this Earth", has always been one of my all time favorites. Probably the only guy who has ever taught Vai a thing or two about guitar playing.

You might want to check out "An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess".  Just guitar and keyboards playing live.

thanks guys,i am following and checking all the recs'.   i listened to steve vai's album "passion and warfare" ...the one with "for the love of god" part and except for this song,it is rather childish sounding..like a 5 years old boy playing the guitar, didn't like it.

I also discovered that many albums, although in the same style, are not equally good.  it is much depends on the melody for me,and not every melody gets to me.

Yngwie Malmsteen is also awsome.  i have one album of his "trilogy" and i think i will definitely pick up another one.   great neo-classical melodies in there.  i am now realizing that i am much more into neo-classical kind of melodies.

Be forwarned, Trilogy is one of two remotely good albums Yngwie has ever put out.  The rest are amazingly mediocre, if not worse, and relatively redundant.

Check out Buckethead's stuff, especially Population Override.
