Well Jude explicitly states otherwise. He says SQ is improved. Anyhow, at a time when many flagships are coming, I sure hope Westone improved on theirs a bit if they want to stay in the game.

the es 5 is still considered to be one of the best iems out there....you make it sound like they are losing on the rest of the iem makers.

Also, I'll wait for reviewers to make claims about changes in the sound than just listen to Jude.

Jude said they have slightly more bass and detail in his mock up, but I normally don't believe much of his reviews tbh. I can see why they'd add more bass, but I'm kind of doubtful on detail retrieval.... the cable and connectors are also different and it costs $50 more.

On another note I just got my ES5 back from a refit and now both sides sit 99% perfect - very content. I love how these things sound smily_headphones1.gif

still waiting on mine, should have them in about 2 weeks.

In terms of popularity yes they are. While I'm sure they sound great they aren't talked about as much anymore.

I placed my ES5 order via Jaben HK on 11/12 and I tried to email Westone for tracking the progress of my ES5 by my name filled on the order list yesterday and they said that they couldnt locate my earphone.

This makes me start feeling worry.....:(

Call Jaben HK directly, and let them check with the Westone HK local dealer Thinking Group....

Don't need to worry, you paid for your CM and got your invoice with you anyway. Worst case would be to clarify and correct the order info with Westone via Jaben/Thinking, and maybe re-make and re-send the ear mold again, which means delay of arrival of your es5, but at least you won't lost your money...

They're here! Sorry for the phone pic, didn't want to spend time with the dLSR since I wanted this in my ears ASAP! I think the fit is good (left ear may give me trouble), but I'll use this weekend to make sure.

I'd like to know how you like them in comparison to past favorite headphones :P

The CK100PRO were my fav til I spent a few weeks with the W4R, which I've been using with a BTG-Audio cable for awhile now. I'm going to stick with the stock ES5 cable for tonight and see if I feel up to switching the cable tomorrow (I'm a little nervous about getting the cable out tbh, I'd like to enjoy them a little first before risking being too rough on the shell :p)

chain looks like: iTunes w/ ALACs or 320s > Schiit Gungnir > Headamp Pico Slim > ES5

Thinking about getting Audirvana for Christmas.

edit: Thanks Mim! It's my logo/pixel-version of myself. The audiologist thought it was funny. And the audiologists were as excited as I was about getting ES5s haha. Made for a good time.

Sound-wise this has lifted the veil I always felt the W4R had. More details present. Lacks some of the bass slam, even compared to the W4R w/ stock cable (recently took my BTG-Audio cable off to switch to the ES5). However, my left earpiece is a little too large or maybe the tip is too short because a) it doesn't feel like it's lining up as perfect/as deep as the right piece (the right piece feels 100% perfect) and b) when I push it in to feel as deep/fit as the right piece does it isolates better. I think I'll call the audiologist Monday for a refit on the left earpiece. a shame, really! Glad the right piece can go untouched though.

I got mine refit as I said before. The initial process took 3 weeks, while the refit took 2.5 weeks, if this information helps at all.

I think its kind of funny because for me, coming from HE-500s, I felt that the ES5 was actually really veiled in the highs at first, and had the best bass slam I've heard, even when listening at really low volumes. Now though I can appreciate them both but overall prefer the ES5 in almost every situation except when I don't want full isolation or just want to toss some headphones on. Just funny how peoples opinions can vary based on what they are used to.

Question: Can you sleep with them in? Aka pressure is too much on your ears on side. Just wondering.

Yeah, the ES5 aren't bass-shy by any means, I just think the W4R has more forward mids and mid-bass that felt like it had more rumble (resulting in the veil?). ES5 doesn't twinkle, but I like that. In fact, any more treble attention and I would probably find these to be too much, lol! No, everything is really clean for me. I enjoy it a lot. ES5 is also more detailed than the CK100PRO, which are just sharp across the board.

Normally I'd give it some more time (I'd hate for the audiologist to think I'm picky or rush-rush) but I'd like these back before Christmas if possible. I'd best get them sent back ASAP. Even then, it may not be enough time...

I haven't tried sleeping on my side with them in. I think the top part of the left piece is too big, because I can push the tip in further to feel as secure as the right side, but releasing my hold results in the left piece slipping back out to the less secure feeling. As if it's being held back by something...which would make sense if part of the piece is too large. The tips look the same length when I pull them out and take a look. I can't say for certain which part of the earpiece it is...but I can certainly notice the difference between left and right fit. It's kind of obnoxious in comparison to the right piece because of how well the right piece fits. I'll cross my fingers on round 2. :)

I contacted Westone to see if they were planning to offer an iPhone remote cable for the ES5 now that they've announced ones for the ES50, and this is the response I got:

"Thank you for your email. We will be offering an upgrade option for your ES5 shortly. You will be able to send it in and have the new socket, cable, and faceplate put on. However, at this point in time, we do not have pricing. I am still waiting on this. But upgrading will be an option. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day."

Pretty awesome! Hopefully it won't be too expensive :)
