This thread sort of talks about what the 7X is based on, the "ES5+"

And this thread is a review that compares the V6 and ES5

I haven't gotten my V6 yet, but I'd say they are a little more focused on resolution and detail, whereas the 7X is warmer, and more fun. You can check out my brief impressions of the 7X on this page.

How are you coming to give that advice, anoxy? Have you heard the ES5 or the IE800?

Nope. Just giving the man some other options that may appeal to his wallet. I put 'improved' in quotations because I know it's entirely subjective. If he wants to shell out the extra few hundred bucks, that's his choice, but it never hurt to read up on your options.

I've just read about the improved JH13 / JH16 on CNET, makes me think that is the way to go actually.

Es5 is really not as good as some of you guys described here. I did refit twice and finally got a perfect seal but still I sold it because it gets blown away by universals like togo 334 and k3003... Even the ie800s sound better... Es5 's sound is too plain and boring, no coloration, not so transparent as well. 334 blows es5 away especially in vocals. The difference is as huge as u move from hd600 to he-6.

I do not agree with this but it is a matter of taste. Comparing the ES5 to the IE800 and TG334, we are talking completely different sound signatures. The ES5 has more texture, layering, subtlety and grace. It is also the most balanced. The IE800 is a more forward, bold and exciting headphone but it is not especially subtle. The TG334 is somewhere in-between but with the least disciplined bass. I don't like the clunky form factor. (Edit: I should add that in my view each of these three has excellent sound quality in its own way.)

All things being equal, I might take the Private 335 over the ES5 but all things are not equal - it is twice the price. The ES5 is good value for a fine custom IEM.

Son of a bitch. I split my left monitor open trying to pull off the cable and add my brand-new-waited-for-8-weeks DHC. Talk about double-disappointment.

Why do they make those things fit so tight?? angry_face.gif

I have a spare black ES5 headphone cable, will they fit other CIEMs like say the FreqPhase JH16?

Wow. 2nd time I've heard of this on an ES5. Stuff happens. At least Westone is noted for great service.

What's the turnaround time? My 6-month old ES5's were sent back to Westone a while ago (loose connector..) and I can't wait to get them back.
