This thread sort of talks about what the 7X is based on, the "ES5+"
And this thread is a review that compares the V6 and ES5
I haven't gotten my V6 yet, but I'd say they are a little more focused on resolution and detail, whereas the 7X is warmer, and more fun. You can check out my brief impressions of the 7X on this page.
How are you coming to give that advice, anoxy? Have you heard the ES5 or the IE800?
Nope. Just giving the man some other options that may appeal to his wallet. I put 'improved' in quotations because I know it's entirely subjective. If he wants to shell out the extra few hundred bucks, that's his choice, but it never hurt to read up on your options.
I've just read about the improved JH13 / JH16 on CNET, makes me think that is the way to go actually.

I do not agree with this but it is a matter of taste. Comparing the ES5 to the IE800 and TG334, we are talking completely different sound signatures. The ES5 has more texture, layering, subtlety and grace. It is also the most balanced. The IE800 is a more forward, bold and exciting headphone but it is not especially subtle. The TG334 is somewhere in-between but with the least disciplined bass. I don't like the clunky form factor. (Edit: I should add that in my view each of these three has excellent sound quality in its own way.)
All things being equal, I might take the Private 335 over the ES5 but all things are not equal - it is twice the price. The ES5 is good value for a fine custom IEM.
Son of a bitch. I split my left monitor open trying to pull off the cable and add my brand-new-waited-for-8-weeks DHC. Talk about double-disappointment.
Why do they make those things fit so tight??
yes they will and they will make the 16 sounds warmer.
Just got my ES5s back from repair and i am full of praise for their customer service, the staff there are very quick, polite and patient to respond to any inquiries i had. :D
Wow. 2nd time I've heard of this on an ES5. Stuff happens. At least Westone is noted for great service.
tah! those pink tips are cool
What's the turnaround time? My 6-month old ES5's were sent back to Westone a while ago (loose connector..) and I can't wait to get them back.
