LODS Do I need a $50 lod? (please give suggestions) - Page 4

I to use to be very sceptical about interconnects.  I have bought and compared them and was unable to hear anything different about them until recently.  It believe that the reason was because of the system I was using.  Over time I have upgraded my system to a point where I can now hear the difference between cables.  I actually ran across it by accident when trying to compare two systems.  This has also been the case with Headphones.  At one point, I could not hear the difference between "high-end" headphones and not-so "high-end" ones.

In short, not all system will benifit from a high quality cable.

''The ZY cable oxidized in the middle mostly. And the silvery parts turned green. Da fug?

It was the silver that oxidized more than the copper.

Regardless, one year of life is too short.''

its not really silver.

Oh really? So what is it then? SPC?

When I mutilated it for the ipod connector, I noticed the wires are so big, they are soldered to really short lengths of some thin wire (looked like 28awg spc) just so it can be soldered to the pins of the ipod connector.

More than likely its SPC.  High purity stranded silver is expensive and hard to find.  CryoParts makes stranded silver wire for Whiplash but you can't buy it for DIY.  Almost all stranded silver you find in LODs is SPC. Whiplash has a LOD with the CryoParts high purity stranded silver for $120.

I haven't seen a commercial available LOD under $40 that wasn't copper or SPC.

I agree, stick with the low en lod, if the money you save wont buy you and upgrade to your iems, then a reshell is a great option, i got my shure se 535s upgraded to 6 drivers and they sound awesome.
