What headphones to buy as a worthy upgrade over the HFI-780s? - Page 4

Very late to this thread and have not read it in detail, so just a :fly-by" to say that the Edition 8 are the best closed headphone I've ever had the pleasure of hearing or owning (aside from the unobtainable/discontinued Sony R-10).  Expensive, yes, but the Ed 8 sounds terrific, isolates well, and is very comfortable.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I hope to some day be able to afford the Edition 8s. They look incredible.

How does the ED8 compare to the JVC HP-DX1000 or DT990/600 or DT880/600 in terms of bass, midrange and soundstage? I posted earlier in the thread that I'm in the exact position as the OP but the ED8 are a bit too expensive :/

I hate that. I also hate the new platform this Forum uses, I miss vBulletin where editing posts, deleting your own posts and changing titles was a piece of cake. As well as making your signature work properly... I don't see myself ever purchasing such high end headphones, unless for some reason I become a millionaire. I just don't know if I can truly justify paying so much money for well reproduced sound, especially if it's not literally an entirely different experience to the average listener. I mean like, you spend $450 on headphones that  sound great, and then you spend $1000+ on headphones that sound a little better than the $450 headphones. I don't know if the huge margin truly compliments the sound quality increase. Then again, I don't really think I have audiophile ears. Hey, if you wanna give a pair to me though I'd be forever thankful. Wait, instead of spending $450 on headphones I'll invest that money in Lottery tickets so when I win I can purchase the Edition 8s. Genius!!!!

They really do look sweet. Maybe one day I'll be able to give them a try. Or buy

That is not a short answer question - so sorry I cannot answer it here.  I have posted extensively about all those headphones elsewhere though.

Lol, cmon Skylab! Don't let us down now! Pick four of the best adjectives you can think of and then compare them based on a scale of 1-5 regarding each adjective. Hahaha, but honestly Skylab has thousands of reviews.

LOL - so lets say this - the Ed 8 are better than all of those headphones.  The DX-1000 is more romantic sounding (and I do love them), but more colored than the Ed 8.  The 880/600 and 990/600, good as they are, are not in the Ed 8's league in terms of transparency or detail, and the Ed8 has better deep bass than the 990 without the upper-bass wooliness - and it is smoother and has much better bass than the 880.

Sorry, that's all I can do for now
