K-1000 : tune procedure for the swiveling earphones ?

Dear all,

 

K-1000 are at home for now one week. The WE allowed me to setup the required means to test then. I now can put them either on DIYParadize Charlize2 with SLA (without 8 Ohms resistor for the moment), or SOHA II. On SOHA, I cal also use AKG-701 or Sen HD540. Both are on the same DAC : DIYParadise USB Monica.

 

So now, I can start listening Music !

 

I would like to know what is the general belief here about the swiveling earphones :

- must it be tuned to 0.1° to get the main part of the headphone perf ?

- or "approx correct angle" is OK ?

 

For now, what I do : I open earspeakers, and then close them slowly. I stop at the point where :

- music starts to come neerer from "in the head",

- sound starts to have more density.

 

Does it looks OK ? Is there an optimal tuning procedure ? A specific effect to look to ?

 

First feedback :

For years I have used some open bafles speakers with Supravox 215 and JBL 2505. No bass but : lively music, speed, no box sound, details, openess...

 

With AKG, I feel the same but with very flat response, no coloration. Every detail is here. I won't say that those headphones give sexy/warm music. But so natural... K701+SOHA II looks a bit more "muddy" than K-1000+Charlize2.

There are so many variations that only extensive trialing will give you the optimum setting.The position on your head, the angle of the cups,the type of music and how loud you listen all have a direct bearing on sound.

 

After a lot of testing I settled on a position and that is where they stay.I could not agree more with your sexy/warm opinion,I think of them as being sterile with certain genres.

If it helps,when I was doing mine I cut up a heap of different sized spacers to fit between the back temple pad(in the extended position) and the cups,I trialed each one at a fixed volume playing the same track.There position is critical depending how much bass you like.

 

I have mine set with the temple pads fully extended,and if you measure between the cup frame and the pad frame 27mm,When I put them on I line up the back of the cup frame with the back of my ears,I listen at a volume around 70-80dbs and with this position get good bass and intimacy which you lose when you open the cups upmore.

 

I am running them from a vintage Sansui SS 25 W/Ch  which gives me excellent volume control and bass.
