Alternative to PayPal?

So I know we've all seen this thread a few times before, but has anything come out yet that's comparable to PayPal (i.e. payments without having to get people to mail you checks) that isn't associated with Ebay?  Ebay is really lame and I don't want to use them anymore.  Long story short I cancelled my Ebay account, and PayPal has been part of that "family" for a while now.  There are at least a handful of solid replacements for Ebay but i'm not aware of one for PayPal.  Maybe some way to make use of Google Checkout?  Hm.

Google Checkout seems to be gaining popularity, and it's the only substantial competition Paypal seems to have at the moment.

Just sign up. The payment methods are with your CC, Debit card, and/or gift card. They don't accept checks, money order, and direct bank account debit. Google checkout only works with online stores with actual checkouts (the google checkout logo needs to be there as shown below). It is not paypal whereas you can send/receive money to/from anyone with an email account.

I fail to see what is amiss with Paypal, millions happily use it every day.

Thanks for posting Fanatic. I didn't know about this before; I'll definitely check out Google Checkout (:D) whenever Paypal isn't an option for me.

The only downside of PayPal doesn't apply to buyers, for me at least - it's completely free, instant.

It has its weaknesses, but it doesn't charge fees, which is a huge plus in my book. I've posted this in every paypal whine thread but everyone seems to be content to continue getting bent over by paypal.

Interesting, but how does it work against fraud? Do you just send money and hope for the best? What if the item you receive was bogus?
